Warrington, Cheshire Ex-BMW guys, know their stuff, do the job right, good prices, 'nuff said.

Also:

Excellent service and prices, highly recommended.

Also:

Took my E36 there as it had a wheel related shake/grind and felt unsteady at the back. They test-drove it (alledgedly), decided it was the rear alignment and adjusted it accordingly. They said the grind was the brake dust cover rubbing on the disc! Driving away, it was evident the problem had not gone away. A month later, I changed the wheel bearing myself and the problem disappeared.

Also:

BMW Purists. Very efficent garage, know their stuff. Always busy. (Not a 9 till 5 garage).

Also:

I found this repairer from this website, My bottom end ball joints were excessively worn I was told by Halfords while trying to get tracking done (for a simalr problem to other person..wheel shake). AA at halfords quoted me £330, another AA at halfords quoted £117 then when I got it there, they said it was per wheel !!!, and then couldnt do the job cos there clamp wasnt strong enough.

DAVID PAUL QUOTED £120 ish for both joints fitted. They did a marvelous job, Im verry happy its hard to find a garrage I have ever trusted, they did the job at the price they quoted, and didnt try to stitch me up for a load more work like most do. Highly reccomended.

Also:

Very good garage. Always helpful. Do not over charge. Offered to spend 15 mins for free to look over a M3 I was thinking of buying. Found oil leaks / rust and a very badly repaired front end bump. Told me to run a mile. You cant find sevice like that often!

Also:

Absolutely outstanding, make BMW look like amateurs. Excellent Prices, really know there stuff. 10/10

Also:

15/05/06: First class service kept informed of work being done to my E46 bmw main dealer quoted £1200 DP quoted me £650 for the same job

Also:

02/07/07: Took my 3-series BMW in as leaking coolant. Was told it was the expansion bottle on radiator so that was replaced. Couple of days later - yes, leaking coolant again so took it to Halliwell Jones, Warrington who told me the pipes to the expansion bottle had not been connected back properly!!

also:

25/04/08: I received fantastic service from these top class mechanics. These guys are true BMW experts who are honest, reliable and quick. Excellent pricing with ho hidden charges, they always keep you informed.

These guys put BMW main dealers to shame. I will bring my BMW to David Paul from now on.

also:

11/06/08: I have had my BMW 318ci coupe serviced by David Paul of Warrington on many occassions now and would just like to say how pleased i am with the service they have provided me with.

I always arrange the MOT to be carried out at the same time as the service and they have always been able to accommodate my requirements.

David Paul of Warrington are Independent BMW servicing specialists and I personally would recommend them.

also:

25/04/09: Avoid them like the plague! I asked them to have a quick look what was needed to pass my e46 330d for its MOT. Quoted £1200+ worth of work! Took it to a friends garage and it was passed with no problems at all - All of the suff they said was needed, wasn't! Lookout for their horses as you take your car in! Cowboys at their best - reported to trading standards!

also:

05/07/09: BMW 320d inspection 1 plus full service , fluids and oil separator check. i found them to be friendly and knowledgeable ,full report of their findings given , they even found a tiny nail in osr tyre which was very hard to spot.only bad point is they left a few finger prints ...i will be using them again without hesitation

also:

12/07/09: 5 star sevice insp 2 on my E46 m3 dave greeted me at reception advised me of the price which surprised me nearly half main dealer and they did check the tappets because i marked the rocker box gasket, when i collected car the price was as quoted no hidden extras i will definetly be using them again good honest indenpent garage

also:

02/07/10: I was recomended this garage by a friend. I have an X5 and needed a service and break pads. The guy who runs it has worked for BMW Bluebell for over 15 years and was great. He quoted me 40%the price I was quoted from my delear. They collected my car and returned the same day. Bonus the car was spotless. would recommend to anybody. ps think it was the first garage that didnt try and rip a woman off.

Smithy Garage Warrington, Cheshire Recommended by a workmate. Could not do enough to help.Very impressed with garage. Bit more than I expected but all explained.
Cheshire German Specialists
and
Stockport, Cheshire 06/12/06: Had more than enough problems with the local BMW dealership and then found a leaflet on the windscreen of my 2001 M5 on Tescos in Stockport from these guys. Great lads with good know how and were as helpfull as they could be. Ran me home and picked me up after the work was carried out. Sorted a managment problem out quickly and cheaply. Would reccomend to anyone.

Also:

20/04/07: Found the garage through the good garage scheme www.goodgaragescheme.com. Took a chance as I have always visited main dealers for my servicing. I was pleasantly suprised. They were very quick and courteous and the price was right. Spot on!

also:

23/12/07: The worst private BMW garage ever, total rip offs, service my BMW and the mileage went down like hell from 30 mpg to 20mpg, and they do not pick and drop you off as well..thats total rubbish...they always say we are too busy.

G+S BMW Specialist Stockport 13/07/09: Very helpfull and friendly guys who showed me the problem on my 325i se which was a leaking water pump. quoted 105+vat all inclusive and sent me away in there loan car and the job was done first thing next morning as quoted. will be going back again.
Peter Michaels
and
Bolton Great for older car servicing. Employees are ex-BMW service mechanics and the company is a family business designed to cut costs for those with older vehicles. Also a useful parts outlet too. I have been taking mine there for 5 years now. Well recommended.

also:

01/07/10: Absolutely shocking service. Changed front CAT box (exhaust) - cost £550. It's still making an exhaust noise. They claim it's the engine mounts and said they'll do it for £250. I went to a private garage and another BMW specialist garage (NorthWest BM) who had the mounts checked and said they were fine. Peter Michaels offers a two year guarantee but said if the exhaust breaks it's not their fault as the engine mounts are worn. Chicken or egg cycle. I'm furious about the whole situation. A friend of mine has spent almost £2,000 on his merc and still not fixed. The only thing Peter Michaels is good for (the 1 star!) is that they'll "fix" your car on the spot - no messing with ordering parts, they'll have it and do the job there and then, which is the reason I had to go to them. Whether they'll sort your problem out or not is for you to decide. I'll never go again.

Williams BMW Bolton 14/03/07: Drive failed in my BMW 530d, was told that maybe the pump had gone and cost of repair was almost £4000, I asked weather a repair was possible and was told (We don’t do repairs only replacements) I had the car collected and taken to a transmission specialist and had the box reconditioned and a new Torque converter at a cost of £2200.

BMW have in my opinion become glorified Fitters and actually charged me £140 for the privilege of miss diagnosing my car ...Verdict Rubbish to full of there own importance, Prestige Vehicles Budget aftersales service.

also:

11/02/08: Booked car in to program LCM light control module to run xenon lights on my 320d after four hours phoned them to see if it was ready to pick up told me it wasn't, told me they would need another hour or so, phoned again after an hour they said couldn't do the re-programing, as they would need to take out the head lights and check them and would cost £350+vat told them what to do, they still charged me £80 or so for doing nothing. so took it BMW specialist PETER MICHAELS BOLTON they got one of their mechanics to have a look at it straight away, he plunged his computer to the car it took literally 5-8 mins to the job and didn't charge me.

also:

03/04/08: I bought a used 330d from Williams of rochdale, but decided to use williams in bolton as it was closer to my home. About two weeks after i bought the car it developed a clicking sound as the engine went to idle. Took it to Bolton and they said that this was perfectly normal for a 330d to do this ( even though previously the technician had never heard this noise before) as they had compared it with other models. I asked to hear the other models and suddenly they were unavailable. I then went to Williams Rochdale who listened to the sound and immediatley booked the car in as there could be a problem with the engine mountings. VERY UNHAPPY WITH WILLIAMS BOLTON --DO NOT USE

Halliwell Jones Warrington / Chester

Wirral (different branch?)

Took my car in for a diagnostic check I'd had booked for a week. Arrived at 8:15am and was told I'd have to wait 4 hours. Phoned at 11.15am to see if they'd made any progress and was transferred to an answering machine. Phoned again (still in Mcdonalds) and was told they'd ring me back - they didn't. Phoned again at 12:10 and was told I could pick the car up. On arriving I was told that they'd done some work on the steering column as part of a recall. Ok, fair enough. Unfortunately, they had not done the diagnostic check because the machine was bust. I asked why they hadn't let me know earlier as I'd just lost 1/2 a days pay and he shrugged and said they were cleaning the car for me. Wanted to book be in again in another week's time. I'm just going out now to clear the mess of streaks off the paintwork. Not pleased at all.

Also:

Update on previous post * finally had the car back to Halliwell Jones(bonnet still a mess from, I presume, TFI cleaner + 80 degrees heat). Another 4 hours later I get a bill for 150 and they have no idea what's causing the hesitation problem. Their best bet was the coils at a price of 300. Total bill including diagnostic work (?) would be 750. Refused to pay and took the car to where I originally bought it some weeks earlier. The fault was caused by a dodgy Lambda sensor. No charge.

Also:

Took my 5 series in for a service. the car was returned running rougher than when it went in. they also damaged my service indicator lights and refused to fix them. thery worked perfectly before they got their grubby hands on them.

5 years later i took my 3 series tourer in in the hope that they would have improved. i should have known better! they kept me waiting 2 hours for the courtesy car. then a further 2 hours when i returned to collect (after being informed that the car was ready). noticed some anomolies on the bill and it turned out they had used the incorrect service pack on my car (their words). they had even forgotten to change the filters!

The car was not valetted either. terrible terrible service. keep away at all costs!

Also:

GER! NEVER AGAIN, USELESS.

Also:

HJ replaced a burst lower coolant hose on my E39 quite efficiently. Next morning though the garage floor was covered in coolant! It was leaking from the bottom of the expansion chamber. The level indicator was stuck below the float. If the system had been pressure tested from the expansion tank it could have forced the indicator to pierce the bottom of the tank. They replaced the tank and billed me for it! I wrote to the dealer principal and got my money back. I don't go there any more.

Also:

This is a very underrated garage I was told not to use them by a couple of people I found them both professional and very warm, they deserve GOOD press!

Also:

06/09/06: Took my car there for an Insurance repair.Took them 3 weeks and £3500 and the job was utter crap.Told my insurance not to pay and sent it back.Next time did job in 5 days! Paint was ok but too much sealant on rear wheel arch(diagnosed by me!) caused rear tyre to rub.Car was not cleaned, overspray and windscreen sealer on my leather! BMW torch key 'innards' stolen twice whilst in workshop! Reported them to BMWGB and nasty letter to Dealer principal finally sorted probs 4 months on! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!

also:

30/01/08: Bought 118d Sport 55 plate. Car engine misfiring at speeds of 70mph. Took to Halliwell Jones inn Chester and was told needed a new sensor. Got this done under warranty. Still Misfiring, worried about driving and need car for work. Phoned and was told that car could not be fitted in again for another 9 days and curtesy car not available. Had to have a full blown argument before they agreed to fit it in sooner. Will the problem be fixed this time? Lets wait and see...

also:

11/05/08: Went there on a saturday at approx 4pm with 25000 quid in my pocket burning a hole. Parked up - in my existing BMW - and was told they were closing up and I had to move it. I asked if ok to look at the cars outside on the forecourt which are open to the air - and they said no!!!!! "It's our leisure time" - needless to say I will never visit that showroom again. Complained to BMW UK and they apologised saying Chester would get back to me too - they never did. BEWARE!!! Useless beyond belief!

also:

25/07/08: Went in to get a new bulb for my head light from the spare parts counter. Paid the 20 pounds that these lamps cost these days. Asked for a mechanic to quickly pop it in (as the customer I disn't see the point that I should get my hands dirty). Was informed "that's a chargable job, mate, and you need to book it in at the servicing desk. Took him outside, asked my wife to change the bulb (dea easy!) - he just shrugged his sholders. Complained to the boss (I was fuming) who upheld his mechanics position. The lesson: Got the car serviced and reparied somewhere else....

AutoBahn German Car Specialists Hexham, Northumberland Very good service, reliable and nice to deal with. I won't be using a main dealer anymore even though they are a 25 mile drive. Highly reccomended !!!

Also:

Seen the recommendation on the site and decided to use this garage. A great friendly service offered. Excellent work Guys!!

also:

22/10/09: These guys take pride in their work and earn the respect they deserve. The true test of a service provider is how they react when things did not turn out the way they would have liked - these guys reacted honourably and did the right thing. I would use them again.

Walker & Bamforth

also

Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Specialises in service to BMW & Rolls Royce. Also do MOT's. Occasionally very busy, but always time to explain things. They never fix something that doesn't need fixing!

also:

Absolute wasters, they are unprofessional and untidy. Friend of mine brought his 323 there and they damaged his wheels (with a hammer) and would not admit they had done it!!

Also:

Firstly, this a an excellent garage staffed by knowledgeable but world-weary staff :-)

A couple of tips, however:

Do not under any circumstances become tempted to engage them in conversation whilst they are working on your car. The reason for this is that they like to talk and invariably the job will take longer. It can however be reflected in the bill the time they spent sharing with you their scintillating philosophical insights on the frailties of the human psyche, nature, relationships etc.

Do not, at any cost, if you are a professional person, divulge your area of expertise as they will - without hesitation – ask you for [free] information/advice/guidance. Any professional advice given most likley will not be reflected or discounted (despite subtle hints and/or barefaced begging) in or from their bill to you. After all, quality workmanship, as opposed to quality advice, costs :-)

Lastly, keeping in mind the above tips you can expect a professional service and an excellent standard of workmanship that will keep you (and your car) coming back for more of their fascinating insights on life :-)

Also:

Exellent staff 100% genuine. Will not over charge.

Had car mot and repairs done on several occasions now the garage is my first point of call whenever needed.Very highly recommend.

Bavarian Motor Warehouse Huddersfield 26/09/08: September 2008. Excellent! Very helpful and these guys really know their stuff. Took my E46 318SE Touring in before work so they could see if the water pump was on its way out. Told me to leave the car with them and they sorted it that day at very reasonable cost, without me even having booked it in! Even got a lift to work. Took my previous E36 Touring to Lister Park in Bradford - never again!!
Almondbury BMW Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Bought a 2year old 330d Sport from them. Five months later after a succession of problems on the left side, found out that it had been in an accident and that the work done was of VERY poor quality. I thought they'd offer to sort out the work but they didn't and are now refusing to do anything at all. DO NOT BUY FROM OR SERVICE WITH THESE LIARS.

also:

Bought an X5 from a sales WOMAN who basically tried to rip me off left right and center. All she ever wanted me to do was sign up to a PCP plan which I DIDNT WANT!! Finally after cancelling and then speaking to a different rep, I got normal credit and now OWN the car (no balloon payment). Dont trust these people, they dont care about the customer.

Also:

12/05/07: Complete cowboys. I have bought many new and nearly new BMWs from a variety of dealers and they were all excellent - apart from Almondbury. They sold me a variety of extra insurance I didn't want saying I could cancel after a short time and they refunded the initial cost. It didn't work out that way. The £23k car was delivered with more faults that I thought possible and enough petrol to get me 100 yards! Avoid these cowboys!

Green Craig Beverley 13/05/07: In Oct 2006 I purchased a 7 year old 2.8 Z3 from a specialist car dealer.

The car developed a problem that caused the engine management light to flash on and off.

The specialist car garage couldnt fix it so in hope I took the car to Gren CRAIGS. Superb. Found the problem to be a small split in an inlet hose. Cracking job done at excellent price.

Godfrey Hall
and

and
Coventry Took car in to get CD and Alarm fitted. Had car returned with CD not working, alarm faulty and interior lights/headlights no longer working. Not impressed at all. Now going further afield for better service.

But also:

Pretty excellent. Expected to pay a couple of hundred squids for service, bill was less than 100 for a '93 740i. Quoted 400 worth of additional work. Car cleaned and hoovered.

Also:

Failed my BM on 2 front tyres (looked like they'd been swapped) replaced tyres as authorised with WRONG MAKE for which I had been charged extra.

Last time I was in, I overheard a guy going nuts saying "everytime I bring my car here it costs 200-300, even on a standard service". Avoid. Go to Autotech Warwick.

Also:

Jeezus......their idea of a used car pre sales inspection is different to ours. Absolutely shocking condition and needed 2000 in warranty work in first 2 months. Totally disinterested once they have your dollars. Got so bad that BMW GB and Trading Standards were brought in.

Also:

Shocking pack of tossers. Bought an 'approved used car' and it was a bucket of shit that needed 2000 worth of warranty work at my local dealer. I had to involve BMW GB when the snotty w*nkrs brushed me off with some poor excuse. Avoid.

also:

Always been spot on with me for any issues arising. Offer all special services like 3+, 4+ and 7+ at better rates to keep your full history. Also full aircon service with desinfectant and regas for a reasonable price.

also:

Went into to buy a used E39 540, pre arranged with the sales guy to test drive one. When I got there he put me in a new demonstrator E60 530 which he said I could have for the same price. Insisted I test drive it. I said it wasn't what I wanted and could I now drive the car I had arranged to, which he said he was busy with a new car hand over and I should come back another day. I WENT TO RYDALE SUTTON AND BOUGHT MY BOUGHT MY CAR THERE. This is the worst BMW garage I have ever experienced!

Also:

Repair to vandalised paintwork on my E34. They gave me a great courtesy car and extended it to cover some mechanical work I subsequently asked them to do - Car is as good as new

Also:

Bought an approved used car, has required extensive work that should have been sorted before the car was handed to me. Do not want to know once they have your money. Have finished up getting another dealer involved to sort problems that Godfrey Hall couldn't manage despite me actally diagnosing the faults for them myself!! Never again!!

Also:

took my car in for stage 1 inspection, bill came to in excess of £700, car had done approx 55k and is and was in mint condition they said anti rollbar bushes need replacing back and front, front discs and pads and heaps of other stuff. Although work was completed satisfactorily and was give a new courtesy car I thought it was well over the top and wont be going back there again!

Also:

Wanted to test drive new 1 Series Sport. Arrived at garage first time for test drive, and was informed that the car was not available; even though they had booked me in. Arrived second time and the salesman had the wrong model.

Received numerous phone calls from saleman asking when I was going to buy the car: when I stopped answering his calls, he left messages saying he would keep calling until I bought the vehicle. I had, at no time, given any indication that I was going to buy it. Bloody awful service from a bunch of snobish w**kers - avoid at all costs.

Also:

12/04/06: Took my E39 in for service & MOT, failed with major probs on rear suspension >£600 repairs completed after 6 weeks delay in getting parts, On getting car back parking sensor had failed - garage refused to repair it stating not their problem !! Not great customer service - it worked when I gave the keys to them. Re-test failed on brakes - right after a service very odd - requested another re-test - strange - it passed. (Now I wonder about all the expense of the suspension - should I have re-tested for this ?) No confidence in this service agent.

Also:

29/05/07: They have done many resprays on my E36 and the paintwork is shoddy. Servicing and maintenance wise I find mechanical work done very well.

Synter Coventry Coventry 11/06/06: I took my aging BMW to them and they were appalling. I needed an oil service and air con broken (again even though they repaired it last year at the fourth attempt).

I got my oil service but lo and behold the air con didn't work DESPITE my telling the service manager could he please look at the service history of the car on the computer because that would have details of the last air con fix. But he wouldn't have it and said all it needed was a re-gas and it was my fault for not running the unit in the winter!

When I picked up the car (after a lengthy wait - more later) the fuel gauge and on board computer didn't work as I drove off. I took the car back and they 'fixed' the problem by replacing a fuse (they claim) but there was a nasty electrical burning smell in the car for two days.

They aren't too bothered with older cars and I wouldn't take any older model to them they are VERY over priced. For the slightest job I have always had to wait for at least an hour or so for anything to be completed even a replacement remote alarm key fob!

One guy on the front is very professional but he is let down else where in the service dept. Oh and I asked for a quote for them to put right everything that was 'wrong' with car on the inspection. Two weeks later I received the quote 3.5K - the car is just about worth this much and for 'a friend in the trade' to quote an unrealistic price for a car of this value is unforgivable.

I've come across this page because I'm now trying to find out more info on my air con unit or someone who can fix it.

THE UPSHOT OF THIS IS THAT BMW'S ARE GREAT CARS AND A GREAT BRAND IT'S A PITY THAT THEY ARE LET DOWN BY A VERY SHABBY SERVICE NETWORK.

also:

14/12/12: Great people, fair prices!

Preston Hall
and
Stockton On Tees Not A bad Place. Main dealer so expensive. Only problem I had was when I left my insurance Docs in a Courtesy car. They were incapable of finding and returning them. Also find the lady on reception a snobby cow! Im 21 and she has totally ignored me on numerous occasions. Had warranty work done a few times and was well treated whilst I waited. I think its about time thought that some of these dealers were told that you dont have to be rich anymore to own a BMW!!

Also:

Had a front end repair done bonnet 2 wings and usual other bits that go with that sort of repair on my 320se, the car was repaired ahead of schedule and to a fantastic finish, many thanks to Mike O'brien who overseen the work he seems to take each job as a persoal mission would not hesitate to go back.

Also:

Although the reception is great and friendly, the service on my E36 has been poor. BMW Alarm fitted at cost of £530 and when I picked up the car the wiring had not ben replaced in the boot. Took it back 3 times and the alarm still doesnt work. Had a ding in the drivers door and took car in. Guy said it would cost over £500 to remedy! This to include new door skin and respray. Took the car to local garage who pulled off the intertor padding, banged the metal from inside, total repair. Cost £5. Also asked Spares dept to cost me to put in a centre armrest. That was 3 years ago, still waiting. They've lost my custom.

Lowgate Motors Sutton,Hull Very good only replace what needs replacing. No job to small or to big, very good on price full 12000m service on 316 cost 138 all inc. will not fit faulty parts without permission. Will collect and deliver car.
RM Motors Elloughton Hull 14/12/07: took my x5 into the garage at the end of the road for a full service and could not be leave how good the service was i had a mark on the body witch the owner richard pointed out to me when we where going into wot was going to be done to the car BODY SHOP AND SERVICE CENTER IN ONE trust is wot it is all about after all
Motortune
and
Blackpool, Lancashire Pretty good, prices are very good, havn't charged for little checks!! Nephew of the local main dealer is the owner

Also:

Another garage recommended I used them. Thought I had one (expensive) problem. They found another (Cheaper) one instead. Fixed the car ad got it back to me. Very impressed with the service and care.

Also:

20/08/06: Nephew of BMW Blackpool owner Derek Woodman. This garage is very impressive down to earth by the book servicing and repairs about 60% less than BMW Main Agents. Very knowledgeable and efficient. I would net hesitate to recommend this specialist BMW garage anyone

Also:

18/10/06: I've been taking our E34 525ix there for the last 4 years for routine servicing. Always had excellent service and reasonable costs. The only thing they don't do is auto transmission problems. Otherwise highly recommended.

Also:

18/05/07: 1st class service and at less than main dealer. They know their stuff and give you a full report of any problems

Derek Woodmans Blackpool 12/10/07: Took car in for a minor fault to be looked came out with a bill for £500 and two more faults. Not interested in sorting them just tring to sell me wheel referbs. Take my advise keep away They need to pay for that new flash showroom with our money.

also:

03/01/08: Serviced my E46 3 Series and damaged rear bumper and tailgate. Garage denied responsibility explaining that they fill in a visual check form of teh car prior to work beginning but could not produce this on my request. Eventually agreed to repair bumper if I paid for the paint. Refused to repair tailgate as too much work involved. I accepted bumper repair eventually but am still left with a dent in the tailgate. Service manager thought this was a satisfactory conclusion, I did not! Beware.

Specialist Cars of Selby Selby (Yorkshire) Mainly BMW specialists but also do Merc, Ferrari and Porsche. I was looking for a good garage and found it. Very trustworthy, been repairing BMW's for 25 years. He charged a great price to replace my engine after my big end went. Great job, great price.

Also:

Looks after my 2002 M3. inspection2, new discs and pads, and tyres all round. 50% discount over bmw, and excellent service. recommended. also looks after loads of porsches.

Synter
and
Leicester These people have really been good to me! They sorted out air con problems, for free or at cost, on my '89 735i for 4 years after I bought it (used) from them. (It eventually turned out to be leaky hoses). Now they look after my 2000 530d with no quibbles about the fact that I imported it. Friendly staff, but watch for extra unauthorised charges!

And

BY NEXT WEEK'S APPOINTMENT IT WILL HAVE TAKEN THEM 10 WEEKS TO FIX 1 PARKING SENSOR & THE INTERIOR MIRROR! HOPELESS! I took my car (2001 525, 54k miles), in on 16 Jan this year to fix parking sensors & interior mirror (failed to dim). Said it needed 1 new sensor & new mirror. Would take 2 weeks to get them. For several phone calls they kept saying that the parts were not in yet. Eventually they admitted that they had not even ordered them. Today, 16 March, we are 2 months later & they still haven't fixed them. I have another appointment for next week. BMW Service wrung their hands a bit but appeared to do very little!

Also:

Reported execsive wear on upholstery. Asked to bring vehicle in for inspection. WHen I arrived I was told they could make no decisions and I should not have been allowed to make the appt. BMW engineer would inspect on next visit - approx 4 weeks. Repeatedly had car 318i to resolve poor quality hands free blue tooth phone system. Still faulty.

BMW engineer rejected claim. Front Seat back, side bolster, stitched down front edge, has frayed stitching to extent stitch has worn through. Pasenger side showing early signs of same problem. I think it is the seat belt causing it as it is used.

BMW customer service effectively said inspector is god no challenge possible. We'll see.

Also:

These guys are one of the busiest dealers in the UK - CRAP service, and will try to rip you off everytime. Bought my 528i sport from Godfrey Hall - Coventry, thought they were okay, however after 5000 miles my front brake pads went. Was told by Godfrey Hall, they had fitted new ones at 50000 miles, when I bought the car. Asked Sytners to change and let me have the old ones back....suprise, suprise, got there and was told they had been skipped, asked them to go and fiond them, no joy. Called me a few days later and told me they had found them.....too late unable to tell whether they were mine!!!!! Avoid at all costs....will cost you.

Browns of Hereford (now Cotswold) Hereford (& Cheltenham) These guys have locked the keys in my car on the last 3 visits! OK - its a '93 and I realise the current models don't self-lock but they really should know better. Otherwise absolutely typical BMW main dealer. Good knowledge but if you need to ask the price you can't afford it....
D.M Performance Cars Chester Small family run garage with that personal touch. Excellent knowledge from 25 years experience working on BMW. They maintain my E28 M5. Very reasonable.

also:

Excellent garage, honest, punctual and did a good job on my 520 Inspection 1 service. Good prices, highly recommended

also:

After telling my local bmw specialist where to put his spanner, it was by pure chance Icame across rich and derick, not only are they good at what do, they also have the respect of your custom, as they dont need to advertise. This says it all, excellent service

Also:

Small garage between Chester & Wrexham. Specialising in German Performance cars. Conducted BMW Inspection level 2 service (ie the most extensive service that BMW specifies)on my 1998 525tds se. Everything done properly. No problems. The first time that a garage has ever charged me less than the quote! Price reduction because air conditioning filters did not need replacing. At £180 it was very good value. No courtesy car or lift available. But at this price I could pay for taxis there & back ten times over! Great!

also:

Excellent service with clear advice and guidance from this small garage.

Also:

23/04/06: I had a major fuel leak on an E46 325 Ci, the Tuesday after a bank holiday Monday, I gave them a call about 9:00 am, they advised to get it around to them asap, really helpfull on the phone, gave advice where to look, but best to take it to them, I did, 2 hours later, got a call back telling me the car was fixed, it turned out that a previous owner had not re-installed the fuel gauage sender unit correctly, an easy fix for them, great advice, charged only for the repair would recommend and will use again.

Also:

13/11/06: Performed oil service on my 1999 2.8 Z3 on recommendation from this site. Very professional and knowledgeable. £92.00 plus VAT so half the price of Williams Liverpool !! Used long life expensive BMW oil as well. Also, helpful comments about small oil leak he noticed from one of front shocks. Will definitely use again.

also:

16/08/07: Oil service, brakes and rear suspension 15/8/07. Excellent service and value. Dropped off car, ready next day. Good advice for the upkeep of my 51 plate 320i. Minimised the extent of the work as much as they could, instead of taking me for as much as they could. They even cleaned the car, it was gleaming when I picked it up.

also:

07/10/07: I have used DM Performance Cars for many years and they currently look after my much prided BMW 330d Sport. Extremely honest, professional and friendly service with competitive pricing. Would thoroughly recommend.

also:

27/12/07: I tried D&M after reading the positive comments on this website. They've looked after my e32 735i for a year now and have proved very helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. Their prices are very reasonable, more than justifying the 50 mile round trip. Unfortunately I have to sell my e32 due to the aquisition of a boring company car but I'll continue to use them for wifey's Mercedes A Class. Good people and a good garage. M.W.

BM Euroservice
and
Wolverhampton, West Midlands I have used Paul and Mark at BM Euroservice for many years to maintain my cars and pick their brains for help. It has always been willingly given and work carried out well and at a fair price

Also:

I received excellent service, two annoying faults were rectified and there was no attempt to add on other work,a very refreshing attitude.Paul was patient and explained the work carried out.The car was ready when promised and the bill was far less than a main dealer would have charged me.I would recommend this company to other BMW owners who are fed up being ripped off by the main dealers.

Also:

Very Friendly and helpful. Even though I haven`t spent a penny with them yet. Will definitely be using in future.

Also:

Excellent! Decided to use them based on the reviews here. Mark was very helpful and I most definately was not ripped off! Will use again!

Also:

29/01/06: I used these guys to resolve the dreaded wheel wobble problem on my old E34. At first they seemed very helpful, booked in for a whole day, told me suspension legs look bent and need changing. Booked in again, legs changed advised, but now have thudding noise everytime I brake. Returned and advised me brake arms and bushes need replacing, couldn;t rebook for 2.5 weeks, also ordered special order thermo. A few days later when the wheel wobble and thudding became so irritating, I called and asked for thermo for which I paid a deposit, so I could get the work done elsewhere, oh we can do it for you tomorrow??? A few things have been resloved, but now over £400 later my original wheel wobble remains. They have now said that it must be my 18" alloys, I explained it does it with the original wheels too.

13/02/06: been to this garage on several ocasions service is very good i was informed when car failed mot that the car needed a new cat very expensive paul and his team checked it out fitted a new lamba sensor aprox £90 no further prob well recomended

Also:

29/07/06: if you no longer have a bmw warranty go here! they are far more knowledgeable than any of the bmw dealers i have been to, they fixed my 2001 e46 330ci sport to a great standard. they are very helpful and excellent value for money.

Also:

02/11/06: car failed mot on emmissions told needed new cat they checked it out fitted a lamba no prob sailed through mot

Also:

02/11/06: I have uswd these folk for five years for servives and niggles on three 7 series, and I am satisfied with the service. results and, as far as I can tell, the prices. I would recommend to someone I hoped to remain friends with.

also:

23/08/11: Waste of time took my BMW 3 series there for an oil leak, charged me 600 pounds to fix but guess what they didn't fix it. Had to sell the car at the end. Shocking service.

Gullers West Midlands Excellent service very cheap Hard to believe the prices Serviced My M5 E39 Insp II for £225 yes only £225 Amazing.... definitely go again!
Williams BMW
and
Liverpool 1) Booked in for oil service, confirmed courtesy car when booking taken. Courtesy car not available when I dropped the car off for the service.

2) Came back after picking up car from above service and drove home only to find the oil filler cap missing and oil all over the engine bay. Their excuse was that the 'apprentice/trainee' had done it - surely he should have been supervised?

3) Final straw - waited 4 weeks for an estimate for insurance repair (total 4k in the end), never replied despite repeated calls and insurance engineer wouldn't approve repairs without it. Went elsewhere.

also:

Took my car in for an inspection 1 service. I requested that brake pads may be renewed if required while checking current ones. upon receipt of the bill i was informed that I would be charged 85 extra for putting in new pads (this was only the labour charge). When I pointed out that the service check sheet showed this item as inclusive of the std service charge the garage refused to refund my money and came out with numerous blags. They checked the BMW central system to try and confirm that they were correct but for each query I had with the bill they were proven wrong by bmw central system. they had even charged me more for the consumables - plugs, oil etc than if I had purchased them over the parts counter. they flattly refused my refund and so i will take my custom elsewhere from now on. Items on the check list had be ticked as carried out for eg interior lights working, but my rear hatch light was not working and had not been replaced by them.

Also:

Avoid at all costs. These people are liars and thieves. They damaged my engine management when fitting new gearbox to my 3 series and took 3 weeks to fix it without an apology. They attempt to charge for work not carried out and even when they do the job is always sub standard. Please please stay away you will regret the day you ever entered the place. Also as with the previous report, they over charge for oil that can be bought cheaper over the parts counter, and refused to refund my money intil I caused a commotion. Watch out on servicing too as they charged me for 6 litres of oil instead of 5, claiming they looked at the wrong model of car on their works order...A likely story. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Also:

I had booked my 330d Touring into Williams to fix a flow meter fault. Was assured that I would receive a call later that day when ready to collect. At 5pm I had not received a call, so telephoned to be advised by them that the car would not be available until the next day. The next day the same thing happened, and this carried on for four days until the end of the week!! Eventually got an apology, apparently they had a lot of staff of on jury service!? Made sure they covered my daily taxi expenses to and from work, only paid them after I threatended to park my car across the enterence to the sales showroom. Do not use!!!!

Also:

11/03/06: I thought I would share with you my experience of Williams BMW of Liverpool. Dire can be the only description for the service I received. Usually, I use Williams of Chester for major mechanical parts, but on this one occasion I had been referred to their Liverpool branch. I had been instructed that my parts would be available for collection after 13:00hrs Saturday 11th March. These details were given to me when the order was placed, then again in a call back to confirm the details. Upon arrival to collect my parts, I am informed the Parts dept closes at 1300hrs on Saturdays! So, not only have I waited 3 days in vain. I know have to wait another 2 before my car will be roadworthy again. All without any apology. I have since been informed the Eurocarparts of Chester can supply genuine BMW parts at a fraction of the dealer cost.

17/08/06: BOUGHT AN 'APPROVED USED' 52 PLATE 318CI FOR £17'452, IN MAY 2006, THOUGHT CAR WAS TOP! 6WEEKS PASSED & STARTED NOTICING PULL 2 LEFT, TOOK TO LOCAL GARAGE I'VE USED FOR YEARS (BUCKLEY TYRES, FANTASTIC!)FOR TRACKING CHECK, TECHNICIAN SHOWED FRONT WHEEL WAS IN WRONG POSITION, AND CAR HAD HAD POORLY REPAIRED ACCIDENT DAMAGE!!!!!!,IMMEDIATLEY PHONED BMW, THEY SAID BRING IT IN, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED 'THERE WAS A PROBLEM' AND AGREED 'EXCHANGE' 1 WEEK PASSED NO CALLS, PHONED BACK IN AND THEY DENIED ANY EXCHANGE!!!! HAD TO MAKE 2ND VISIT, PROVED FAULTS TO BODYSHOP, THEN SAID THEYD GIVE ME 14K FOR CAR AS I'VE USED IT! AND AGAIN SAID CAR WAS IN EXELLENT CONDITION!ONGOING COMPLAINT, ESCALATED TO TRADING STANDARDS!!!!! AVOID!!!!!

Also:

31/08/06: I purchased the above vehicle from Williams BMW in Liverpool last summer. After driving the car for a while I realised it had a squeak in the back of the car. It seemed to happen when getting in and out. I telephoned BMW and they told me it was because the car was new and the handbrake had to be worn in; this never seems to have happened.

I have had to take the car into BMW to get the squeak fixed and also there was something wrong with the windows – the back window kept rattling and the front window kept stopping halfway up and going back down again for no apparent reason – BMW said they would get it repaired. They said I would be without a car for a day so needed a courtesy car - which I had to pay for. My wife collected the car and when I checked it, the back was still squeaking and the window hadn’t been fixed. I telephoned BMW who told me to bring it in again and they’d get it fixed. Again, it was a lot of hassle to take the car in.

This time, I had to take time off work as I wanted to pick up the car myself to make sure the work had been done properly. The car still squeaked and the window didn’t work properly. Also, I understand that as a matter of course, cars taken in are always cleaned, however, mine wasn’t.

After talking with the service advisor, he told me that the engineer said that squeaking is a common fault with BMW’s and there is nothing that can be done about it. I was then told that he needs two keys to re-programme the window – a bit late to be telling me that! When I purchased my new BMW I was not told about any ‘squeaking’. also since the car has been in BMW Liverpool,

it has scratces that have appear out of nowhere. BMW said they were there before it came in NOT

When a purchase is made of something as WORST STATE THAN IT WENT IN

expensive as a BMW, or even an inexpensive item, if there’s something wrong with the item, it should either be repaired or it should be replaced. Why is it that this is not happening with BMW? It is terrible service and I am quite shocked at what has happened.

Problem still not resolved after 4 visit, service at BMW Liverpool and body shop are the worst I have ever come across AVOID BMW LIVERPOOL AT ALL COST, THEY LIED AND YOUR CAR COME BACK IN A WORST STATE THAN IT WENT IT FOR

Also:

06/09/06: Liars! Had my M3 Evo vanos replaced by them, unit went faulty again(the gears should be replaced as well).Left the car with them, but had second thoughts and phoned to cancel. Was told the car was in workshop with engine stripped down,£200 to rebuild.Went down with my spare keys, car was in car park where I left it and hadn't been touched! I left and never went back!

Also:

02/01/07: I got a m3 off williams.....problems with belts, aicon stunk....went for a service, asked them which one i needed, it was not showing up on the PC so i rang the last dealer BMW in aberdeen, who told me they had NEVER serviced the car!!!

Got my money back in the end, BMW WILLIAMS then sold the car to a trader who was driving it around with MY Private plate on!!!!!!

also:

18/03/08: I will never visit Williams again. Their staff are very rude and unhelpful, the prices are far too high and the work carried out usually seems sub standard. Each time I have visited their service department my 330d has been returned to me with a new fault caused by their carelessness or the inability of their technicians. Faults have ranged from electrical faults to brake problems and engine failure. Each time I wished I hadn’t taken the vehicle in as the repair bill seemed to spiral out of control. I will be going elsewhere in future.

also:

04/11/08: Dreadful. They scratched my car on the outside and inside when it went in for some suspension work. They didn't stamp my service book after service, despite asking them twice and even asking for a copy of the paperwork (it didn't arrive). They are obscenely expensive and constantly send advertising materials and phone you wanting to sell you more cars. The only staff that appear to give a damn are the sales team (before the sale). Find a smaller independent BMW specialist instead!

also:

21/03/11: AVOID THESE SHARKS AT ALL COSTS. Overheating Mini One. They bled the system gave me car back knowing I commute 80 miles per day. Within days back in - they diagnose defective radiator and oil leak. I questioned why they had not detected it a few days earlier??? Lengthy technical explanation. Low and behold continues to overheat - now a head gasket at a cost of £2400. I am about to issue in the small claims court they are not getting away with it. Maybe everyone issue in the small claims?? They are breaching the Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1982. http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/making-complaint/template-letters/

PS the courts tend to favour Joe Bloggs as opposed to the big corporates. Good luck everyone!!

Williams BMW Body Shop Liverpool Avoid at all costs!! I had to have repairs to the rear of my vehicle carrieed out - paint scratches, rear window, rear bumper, slight dint. I had to take the car back 4 times because they scratched the paint each time when installing the rear window. left the window leaking, left paint tape lines on the body work, left glue over the interior paneling facias, damaged rear wondow wash jet. didn't repair the dint in body work but charged for it.

The level of work was below substandard. I was extremely disapointed especially since they were a supposedly approved bmw body shop.

Field Lane Litherland, Liverpool Had major problems finding a decent BM specialist in Liverpool. Williams dealer is too dear, and Autotec centre independant in the City centre is way too expensive and a con merchant - they charge you for jobs that they havent even done - Paid £240 for inspection 2 and they never even changes the air filter or spark plugs!

A freing reccomended me to Field Lane and I havent looked back. Freindly and Honest staff give honest opinions. Very helpful and reasonably priced. Give them a try.

Also:

09/08/06: Very honest, courteous and dedicated staff. Have never looked back since being there on recommendation

Also:

19/12/06: the injector went on my 330d at 40000 miles got intouch with bmw about getting it replaced as i didn,t expect this part to go on a low mileage diesel let alone a "bmw" but as per usual they would not entertain me saying it was out of warranty, but only just, still they never even offered a good will gesture in form of a discount for the dud injector but they replied with a price of £295 for the part and £295 for fitting.do they make prices up as they go a long, so refusing to pay that sort of money for a relatively low mileage car i was put in the direction of field lane. terry the owner done the job for me for £170 and i sourced the part brand new from ebay for £40. terry was very honest workshop was clean and he respected my pride and joy so in all honesty you don,t get what you pay for as far as a bmw sevice or customer service for that matter.well done to all the bm specialists and thanks terry i will be seeing you again soon count on it

Also:

24/12/06: I would recommend this independent BMW specialist to anyone. After the damper pulley on my 320d sheared I contacted the nearest main agent who couldn't look at the car until Jan 3. Terry at Field Lane had the car repaired the following day - 21 Dec. They are now in new premises in a small industrial park in Aintree. They are extremely helpful, honest and reasonably priced. No more main dealer prices for me, I will certainly be using them for future servicing.

Also:

22/01/07: Took my Coupe in with engin problems (being a woman not having a clue) thought i would be getting stung NOT! could not belive they were very honest with me sorted it out within the hour and only cost me £20. I even got a cup of tea. All the lads very friendly. I no where iwll be going in the future and my friends.

Also:

31/01/07: Took my car in for service very realiable and friendly staff would recomend any BMW owner to use this service also reasonably priced and eff icient

also:

11/02/08: Had an MOT done there on my 02 BMW in Oct 07 and just paid for the certificate as no work was needed. No con merchants in this garage. Excellent choice to take your pride and joy to....will be taking my car back for a service in March 08 with no qualms about paying for work which does not need to be done.

also:

21/12/09: Excellent workmanship. Will do everything to get the best results at the lowest possible cost.Have been using their services for the last 4 years. Wll recommend everybody to try them once - will never go elsewhere.

also:

18/04/10: When my car started misfiring & blowing blue smoke I took it to Field lane because of the favourable reviews on this website. To cut a long story short, they told me it was fixed on 4 separate occasions but each time I had to take it back because the problem returned. In total they had my car for 3 weeks, charged me £220 for various repairs & still didn't fix it. Eventually, when I realised they had no idea what the problem was, I gave up & took it to Williams BMW who diagnosed blocked engine breathers & fixed it within 24hrs. Okay, with BMW hourly rates it cost me £434, but that's a small price to pay for accurate diagnosis, prompt repair & good customer service. I wasted more time & money on unnecessary repairs at & travel to/from Field Lane, temporary insurance on another car, & a hire car for a weekend away. I've learned a valuable lesson, you get what you pay & I'll never trust a so called 'independent specialist' garage again.

Newhall Cars Liverpool, Wirral 04/11/08: Friendly, helpful, communicative, basically everything the main dealer in Merseyside isn't. Even took my 15-year-old 520i in recently (it was constantly breaking down) and it's good as new now. They can be a little pricey for certain things but you don't mind paying it because they actually appear to care and they clearly know what they are doing (unlike other local BMW garages). They give you advice and chat to you a bit, rather than treating you like cattle. I'd defo recommend them to any beamer owner in the Wirral area.

also:

26/06/09: Had many bad experiences in the past with Williams, Halliwell jones and the rest of the inefficient lying con artist. Then was told about Newhall in West Kirkby. What a fantastic surprise to find them efficient clean and honest. They just charge a very honest and reasonable price for what they have done, just like most of the smaller garages. They treated my old BM like it was one of their new ones.. I say more power to their arm, and congrats on being the first main agent that I have recommended. I will be buying my next new beemer from them!!

also:

10/01/11: highly recommended very professional, and a credit to bmw, especially after having dealings with the halliwell jones mob, and other main agents that seem to employ any old divvi off the street that says he can fix cars...

also:

03/09/11: Call trading standards is exactly what I did. I had to follow a very long legal process to get them to fix the car I bought from them just weeks earlier to a road worth condition. This was a £20k car, not a £2k banger! Happy to take your cash, but not interested when you have issues unless you are paying. There so called warranty really isnt worth the paper it is written on.

Scotthall BMW
and

and
Leeds Not good. Charge a lot for problems they did not rectify. Moreover, after the service I've discoverd that one fixing nut was lost! The only good thing is the customer service.

also:

Might have given their service department a try if they ever bothered to returned my phone calls.

Also:

Terrible. Took them 3 days to replace a battery, despite being provided with a report from the BMW Assistance technician that this was the reason my car wouldn't start. I get the impression they are only interested in the top end of the market so as the owner of a used BMW compact I didn't stand a chance!

Also:

Kerbed my M3 19" wheels twice, denied it the second time and tried to accuse me of doing it and blaming them. Various sub standard service incidents requiring multiple visits to sort out. If it wasnt for their proximity to my place of work I would never go back, in fact I dont really know why that stops me - I keep thinking surely they can be that bad again.....

Also:

The automatic transmission on my 4.25 year old 525 packed in. Scotthall persuaded BMW to pay for the replacement gear box and and the work except for £250. The service advisor was brilliant keeping in touch with me about the progress of the car

Also:

06/06/07: Can't fault the customer service dept, if only they were as good technically.

November 05: took '99 318i compact to them as the alarm was going off at all hours of day and night. They 'diagnosed' a faulty bonnet sensor and replaced it. Drove away, stopped to buy a sandwich and the alarm went off. Took it straight back and they then reduced the sensitivity of the internal sensors. No problem since.

November 06: quoted me £318.60 to replace rear discs and pads. Local panel beater did it for £121.29; coolant change quoted at £70.00, ball joint replacement quoted at £120.20 - to my shame I let them do that one.

They were unable to fault find the front courtesy light????

Also:

20/02/07: Quoted 8 hours labour (£911 total inc vat) to replace n/s/r + o/s/r brake pipes on 318i. B&M Care (Pudsey) qyoted and charged for only 4 hours labour (£180+vat). Scotthall therfore incompetent or crooked

also:

02/10/07: My first BMW service experience. Had an inspection 2 done and was told my 318ci needed a brake fluid change. Went to collect the car and the invoice was for less than I had originally been quoted for the service!!

Well chuffed, really made to feel like a customer, they kept me up to dat through out the day and the car came back spotless. Only fault was they couldn't give me a lift to work.

Forrest Motors Lincoln I have known Derrick for about 12 years and he has always serviced my cars - he is a properly trained and qualified BMW Specialist - honest and reliable - very reasonable charges.

also

Derrick is the best independent BM specialist in Lincolnshire. I've been taking my beemer to him for over 3yrs now. Good prices. Honest and reliable. Friendly advice. Free loan car. Sorted!

Also:

I'd like to add my comments to those already on this site. Derrick has serviced 3 of my cars - his service is always exemplary and his prices are very keen. He has moved to new, larger premises in Wrightsway, Lincoln - super clean workshop. Beats the local dealer hands down!

Also:

30/03/06: I have known, and relied upon, Derrick Forrest from the time he was the Chief Engineer for the BMW concessionaires Crompton & Holt in Lincoln, which is going back over 20 years. He has serviced and repaired all my cars, of different makes, and in particular my BMW 5 Series for over 15 years. He is utterly honest, thoroughly reliable and pure magic with a BMW. Since 2001 when I moved to Kent, my BMW has made its annual pilgrimmage to his garage without complaint,a round trip of some 400 miles. That is how much my BMW and I value him! Can't praise him enough.

also:

06/03/08: serviced my 328 last week, superb in all respects, dont even think about going elsewhere, first class service at a resonable price, with no silly attempts to sting you for more work than is needed. Bmw main dealers look and learn, this is how all garages should be. My car has never run so well, keep up the good work.

also:

03/12/09: E39 near side front spring broke on drive, spoke to forrest motors said get car recovered to them ASAP. Got car to them @ 1530hrs by 1700hrs picked up car.1st class service, also had cat done 12 months ago again just rang up and got car booked in later that day. Looking for a great place to have your treasured BMW cared for don't look anywhere else.

10/07/10: absolute genuine first class bmw technician. this guy will help you like yor family. he looked after my m3 when i had big problems and he now looks after my m5 if i have none diy problems. keep up the goog work derrick a+++++

also:

25/10/11: Absolutely first class service, good honest, trustworthy people. Have serviced my M3 since purchase nearly 10 years ago and they've supplied my parts (and advice !) since it followed me to Cairns, Australia. Thats right, they are such good technicians that they upkeep my car even though its 12000 miles away. Which incidentally is the distance he is ahead of the main dealers in the UK and Oz.

Colin Woods BMW Byards Leap- Ancaster Lincolnshire 16/02/09: Colin and Adam really know their way around BMW's. Had both my E34 and E39, trustworthy and honest which is what you want in a garage.
B.M.Tec Manchester Independant outfit well established in Manchester for many years. I take both my cars there and have recommended many to them. I have never had any problems with them. Top rate guys.

Also:

Friendly reliable and good value. Recommended.

Also:

Car developed coil fault on a Saturday morning, main dealers didnt want to know until the following Tuesday, BMTec told me to bring it straight in and job was completed within the hour, absolutely first class service and very reasonably priced.

Also:

knowledgable, friendly and good prices, no problems in the 3 yrs i've been taking my e36 320 touring.

Also:

16/09/06: Excellent service received from them, i have taken my E39 for its oil service service & Inspection 1 last week. Much cheaper than main dealers and better service. Highly recommended.

Also:

14/05/07: Used BMTEC through recomedation from this site, used stealer before,BMTEC give first class service, run with quaified BM technicians, obtained quote had car serviced they found a few small adittional jobs and quoted for them, picked the car up and the bill was cheaper than the quote no daft added extras, definitly worth the trip and its easy to find.

also:

05/10/07: quoted by williams of manchester £3000 to repair pistons and rings in my 1998 520ise they charge £150 hour labour phoned bmtec told them the problem no compression at all on cylinders over the phone told me the answer to my problem fixed in 45 mins with the cost of transporting from williams of manchester to bmtec £120 excellant friendly and helpful service cannot praise them enough.

also:

29/04/08: My z4 driver door sounded loose, got bmtec to have a look. It was sorted very promptly, however, door airbag warning light came on and one bit of plastic wasnt refitted properly. Told problems to Andy and he sorted door and sent me to bolton to another garage who had a more sophisticated programmer unit to reset the airbag light. Also had oil service with him. Seems like an honest outfit that doesnt give you BS like some other places. Just wished everything was done right first time, but cant complain much for the price.

B.M. Tec Hull 20/03/08: I took my 2001 m3 to bmtec with a whining noise from the diff when cornering.I was expecting bad news and was surprised when they said it could be sorted with a diff oil replacement which is recommended by BMW.The noise has gone . I would recommend BMTEC as their product knowledge is excellent and their prices are are very reasonable.
Williams Manchester 17/10/06: Not a professional car service at all! NOT INTERESTED IN BMW CUSTOMERS CARS. Extremely poor car service & making it run worse than when it first went in which is ridiculous considering they are supposed to be BMW specialist's!!!

Any one who enjoys driving & looking after there cherished BMW I would advise them to seriously to go elsewhere and avoid them at all cost!

A Disgrace to the BMW Brand Name. Recent repair bill parts cost £220 Labour Charged £550 for half a days work.

Also:

27/11/06: Extremely poor. Booked my car in for a service. Turned up and it wasn't on the books. They shoe-horned me in "as a favour". Identified faults and re-booked in for parts & repairs. The manager said he would order the parts. Turned up for repairs. THE PARTS HAD NOT EVEN BEEN ORDERED!! As a driving instructor I had lost a full day's earnings due to their gross incompetence.

Also:

30/01/07: Took BMW 320 in for a service with a full tank of petrol. Car returned with half a tank and an overcharge on the bill. Sorted the overcharging out fairly quickly, but service manager refused to take my calls about where my car had been whilst in their care and kept fobbing me off. Only got satisfaction when I obtained the MD's direct line. Left with the impression that they really couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. Have not given them any business since.

13/03/07: E39 525d oil inspection. They phoned up to tell me usual problems about brake pads need changing bla bla bla. When i said i would get this done independantly the person hung up the phone. Picked car up 2 days later took to BM Tec to get brake fluid/pads done. they said the oil was on the Min and had topped it up. Seems williams charged for 5 litres of oil, and only filled up to the Min. Do NOT take your car here.

18/01/10: Took car in for a replacement part and MOT at Williams BMW Manchester, car was given back with a problem (airbag light came on and wouldn't go off). Went back to their "customer service desk" and was told - arrogantly and rudely - it was a "coincidence" that the problem had occurred (from me giving the car in for service to me getting it back). I was then asked when I'd like to rebook my car in to be looked at (at cost).

Unbelievable. Rude, arrogant, expensive. AVOID.

Fawdingtons
and
Newcastle They were half price of London dealer work, gave the car a very good clean inside and out.

And

Having had over heating problems with my 523i I took it to fawdingtons whos mechanics reported that the head gasket had blown and the head may also need to be replaced. Unhappy with this report which cost me 39.62 I let my friend take a look who informed me that I needed a new radiator cap which we repalced (2 pounds scrap yard) problem solved.

11 visits in 6 months for a recurring TPMS fault - always same response - incorrect tyre pressure (set by them) also put in for NSF tyre replacement due to nail - changed wrong tyre and presented car back with unchanged tyre c/w nail but with a nail attached to the invoice - worst garage I have dealt with in 25 years - Priory better (now Victoria)

Western Way Garage, Darras Hall Ponteland, Newcastle 29/07/06: Prompt, friendly service from a small independent. Quick diagnosis of problems, and fair quote to fix. Seem well used to dealing with BMWs.
Bank Top Ponteland, Newcastle 18/12/06: First class garage, my E36 ripped its subframe from the boot floor. No garage would even undertake the work, ones that would quoted over £1000. They did the work for £300 and it was excelent. WOuld recomend to anyone.
Centreville Garage Newcastle 23/04/10: Knowledgeable, pleasant, efficient and polite. What's not to like?
Wheatley Hall BMW

Now trading as Stratstone

and
Doncaster My E36 went in for a small engine problem. Turned out to be a sensor. Charges for finding and fixing the fault weren't too bad but I got really upset when I noticed they wanted to charge me for an extended road test.

They were charging me for them to drive my car using my petrol. I think not! Nice coffee though!

Also:

My '02 E46 had been stalling and rough running so I took it to my closest dealer Sytner in Sheffield. After they had my car all day I collected it only to find the fault was still there - perhaps a bit worse.I was not happy with any part of Sytners service so took it to Wheatley Hall in Doncaster, was greeted politely by the desk staff and even offered a technicaian to demonstrate the fault to. The technician (Kevin) was polite, clean and obviously very good at his job as he identified the fault during the test drive through symptoms I had not even noticed (slight power surges)and told me to pull over and stop the car. He disconnected the "air" meter and the fault was gone. He even diagnosed a Bluetooth phone fault for me on the test drive. Under his advice the "air" meter was replaced as was the phone control unit. Both faults fixed 100% in less than an hour. Top service from a top dealership by a top technician. Well Done!

Also:

Dealt with them for over 5 years now, changing my car every 18mths or so.I always find them to be really friendly weather spending money or not.All staff who come into contact with you show real interest, from the lady as you walk in to the Dealer Principal, who if passing will always say hello.

Although part of a large PLC feels like a caring family business. The deals are fair too, I am a buyer by profession and tough to deal but they take it in their stride.

Top Marks and highly reccommended.

JDW Motor Services Doncaster A one man band back street garage. What John doesn't know about BMW's isn't worth knowing! (I think he used to be a BMW mechanic in his earlier days). He is also known to have the cleanest workshop in Doncaster!
Contract Cars Doncaster 23/06/07: Bought car from them but the salesman was as rough as anything; when I went to collect the car he was giving a young lad a ticking off and I heard him call him a "m****r f****r" which is not the sort of language customers should be hearing.
Lloyds BMW Cockermouth, Cumbria They sorted out my tracking and balance and three weeks later a wheel fell off! Totally ripped us off and messed us around with an MOT too. Dodgy waste of money, don't go there!

Ian Woodburn BMW
and
Preston, Lancs Independant bmw specialist with over 25 years experience, excellent help with my c2 alpina reasonable prices, and superb service.

And

First time I've used Ian's garage but wouldn't hesitate to use again. Highly knowledgeable, excellent prices and superb service. I'm no expert - Ian actually worked to help keep the price down which is a breath of fresh air after experiences with main dealers. Highly recommended!

Also:

20/02/06: After having some very weird problems with my 535 and searching the net for answers i found this page recommending Ian Woodburn. So i took it down.

I explained a few problems including what appeared to be a dodgy ignition switch, rain sensors not working and a knocking on my engine.

Ian had my car for 3 full days. I had no phone call, when i phoned them they were unhelpful. When i finally got to pick my car up it was a comedy of errors. Firstly he had charged me £96 plus VAT for what was no more than 2 hours labour!!! I know this as i called at 5 on the Thursday night and they hadn't done anything yet when i called at 10:30 the next morning he had finished. Then my remote locking and alarm wouldn't work. It still doesn't on my spare. Then the battery was dead and he tried telling me it was knackered.. i had this checked not two weeks before taking it to him and have never had problems with my battery before! Then on closer inspection of my steering column the plastic cover is hanging off and my wires are hanging out! I then checked my rain sensors, still not working! When I asked Ian about it he said that was another job for another day!!! The guy had my car for 3 days! The knocking noise was also still present to which he replied I never asked him to look at this!

All in all a waste of time and money and i will not be visiting them again and advise anyone else to steer well clear!

Also:

29/07/06: Did a reasonable job with a service last year after I took the car in. However, when I had my girlfriend take the car in this year for a problem with the brakes they took the piss. Seriously overcharged to replace discs and pads and did not fix the root cause of the problem. Avoid.

Signature Preston / Blackpool 08/12/07: Took my car in for service and repair more expensive than dealer and no knowledge about how fixing a problem i have. Staff are MG Rover trained not BMW.Keep away..
Bowker Preston and Blackburn Preston / Blackburn 28/09/07: Fantastic, i have had a number of cars over the years and have found Bowker BMW to be the best dealership excellent customer service and reasonable prices. Cannot do enough to help. Recommend to anybody.

18/09/11: Had my service done here and this was my first experience of a bmw dealer. Received a warm welcome and everything was explained before any work was completed. Even let me join their loyalty scheme which gave me a discount due to my car being over 4 years old.

Prestons BMW Lancashire I purchased a new 330d from Prestons BMW. They managed to damage the front bumper when screwing on the numberplate and then it was damaged again on their transporter when they delivered it. The complaint is that they took it back, filled and painted the bumper (refusing to replace it) but failed to do anything to refix the numberplate. One of the screws had fallen out because they had drilled the hole too big but they were satisfied that as the plate only flapped but wasn't going to fall off they just washed their hands of it. The attitude of the sales manager was terrible, as long as they had their money they couldn't be bothered. I wouldn't trust their workshop staff (although at least the service manager was polite) the bad attitude was only shown by the sales manager. Don't deal with these people unless you live close enough to go in and cause a fuss. I went to them because they gave the biggest discount....big mistake.

Rydale Central
and
Birmingham Not impressed - inspection 1 plus a new battery came to a tad over 500.

Also reported all four sets of pads needed changing, where only fronts were worn.

Hourly rates gratuitously expensive - avoid.

Also:

Reported rattling in the rear of the car, was told I needed to replace the rear parcel shelf, turned out to be a cracked axle, great diagnosis. Have been treated nothing more than a nuisance. I hate to think how much money I have spent over the years and the service gets worse every time. Be aware of these characters.

Also:

Absolutely disgraceful, receptionist and sales people treated me with contempt from the moment I walked. I was seriously looking to buy another BMW that day, but was totally put off by staffs attitude, have had service before also which was overpriced and poorly done. Avoid these pretentious tossers.

also:

Avoid these w*nkers - look at you like shit, treat you with utter contempt and prices are way inflated.

Also:

Absolutely rubbish. Took my 320Ci to these guys to investigate an engine knocking sound. Was told that i needed all my tappets replacing to the tune of £600!. Went for a second opinion at BM Euroservice who found a loose spark plug which was replaced and fitted for £10.

Also:

11/09/06: Pathetic and very rude service and branch manager! My M3 EVO, has been back to this garage so many times i have lost count. Nov 2005, Dec 2005, Jan 2006, Feb 2006...etc. Car has been parked for a few months as i have been away. However same problem has now returned. Nearly 2k pounds later! Took it back in, and now they are sayin it is a new fault....suprise suprise! Funny how they charged me 330 quid for changing a RELAY for a OIL LEAK!!!!!!! t055ers!

Rydale BMW Olbury, Wolverhampton Mentioned that 1 of my headlights had misted up. WOW ! what a sevice, they picked the car up from my house and left me a 530i Sports Demonstrator overnight, then returned my car to my house, with a full vallet and a wash, lights repaired, and even left me a tin of sweets on the passengers seat ! Outstanding.

Rydale Oldbury (same as above?) Birmingham Don't know where to start. Had my 3 series 9mths, loads of trouble tick over lumpy diagnosed as premature wear of engine also suffered brake fade. Car was damaged while in for repair then to add insult to injury paid 18,995 offered 12,800 9mths later! I have never been treated so badly, very disapointed not at all helpful. In fact i have been treated like a nuisance

Also:

29/07/06: Dreadfull 'Cowboys' work on the assumption that every one there has been trained by Arthur Dailey. They were good about 5 years ago with their tins of sweets on seats but now Rubbish avois at all costs, you have been warned!

05/11/06: I cannot belive how shite I have been treated by this bunch of time wasters during a purchase of a used 645. Seroiusely angry with poor service and lies. My advice is to avoid them at all costs. Shabby beyond belief!

BMW Worx Birmingham 01/02/11: Servicing my M3 convertible has been so easy, BMW Worx guy has saved me so much money now over the last few years, glad I got introduced. No advertising at all, all word of mouth work. My mate gave me the number and I have never looked back. If only more mechanics were honest like these guys.
Rydale-Sutton Sutton Coldfield - West Midlands I took my 02 E46 M3 in for Service 1, the service was appalling and their prices outrageous. I will never return again! I know when I'm being exploited, avoid at all cost!

Also:

My service advisor - I** S**** who would rather interrupt a conversation with the customer to take a mobile phone out of his pocket and read a text message. £1,850 spent on my E36 M3 Evo 'Vert. Phoned me to say that they collected my car okay. Actually I delivered it to them but they mixed my contact number up with another customer.

Inspection II - Fine but tried to charge for 3 wiper blades when my car has 2.

Seals replaced at £1000. Driven car this morning around first corner and water leaked in...

Electric hood was not operating and they replaced control unit @ £250. It still doesn't work. I'm told the unit can't be taken into stock once it has been coded to a car as they can't recode. No one has been able to explain why when asked.

Complained to BMW UK to another useless guy called Ken (who has lost all ability to return phone calls). They believe the dealer has done everything possible that they can. Why did I buy BMW?

My advice - AVOID!

Also:

Took my 1 series to have a few problems fixed. Garage failed to diagnose any of them after three attempts (even though they were obvious when I was driving). Also took the car there to have a spoiler fitted on a seperate occassion and they scratched both the car and the new spoiler (and didn't wash the car). Nice free coffee though...

Also:

Thought Rydale Central were the worst but no! new M3 convertible with rattle been back 6 times so far & still not cured.bunch of arrogant w***ers who couldnt give a shit.avoid at all costs

also:

26/09/07: They ruined the convertible cover on my E46 through fixing the hood groan but leaving the hydraulic ram leaking onto it then asked me to pay £1500 to replace it! After THEY had paid for it the service manager phoned me and said "I think your expectations of our service dept are too high." In other words - you're banned!

Blue Bell Wilmslow - Bodyshop
and
Cheshire Had the front air dam & bumper repainted on my E39. When I went to collect it after 4 days (supposed to take 2) the centre bar had not been painted, & the whole bumper & grille assembly very poorly put together & mis-aligned. They wanted to re-quote for the paint they had forgotten. Also, two dents on the door we not fixed because the "Dentmaster" was ill. Having pointed all this out to the bodyshop Director, he then put everything right including the door dents & more - how it should have been first time. Paint is excellent. Only final black mark was I noticed the glove box torch was missing a couple of days later, whereabouts unknown.

Also:

29/07/06: Stay away. These guys are rude. I bought my car from them 2 years ago which they were really happy to sell to me and pushed the great service they offered regarding maintenance etc. Well my car has been to the garage numerous times, it has been reported by the technicians as being dirty when I took it for a service (hello - I drive it 500 miles a week and don't have time to wash it that often). Recently the DDE (Digital Diesel Electronics) light came on so I phoned them to report the issue. The service rep I spoke to couldn't find anthing about DDE light in his manual and I should probably take the car into them to look at. The car broke down 2 miles later.

My car is covered under the BMW 5 yr/60000 mile maintenance package abd whilst it was being repaired for the diesel pump packing up they noticed I was low on oil. They phoned and asked if I wanted it topping up so I agreed and thought it was extremely kind of them.... I was hit with the bill for £15.96 for a supposed litre of oil that I wasn't told would cost me anything and also that I never saw. Did they put 1 litre in or did they just put some oil in the car but charged me for a litre anyway.

Also when I picked the car up they informed me I had a puncture in one of my front tyres - huh ! news to me. Apparently they had spotted a nail in the tyre and I could replace both front tyres for £135/tyre ex VAT. No thanks.

Do not use this garage they are rubbish. Poor service - snotty sales staff, generally shouldn't be a garage. Can't wait to sell my car in a years time and head on over to Audi.

Also:

17/04/07: They will take you to the cleaners if they can get away with it. Avoid at all cost's

also:

23/09/07: Very poor service - reported problem with closing the doors - all doors do not close properly. When I went back to collect car, the report from Technician was that there was no problem !!! Lady called another technician who this time acknowledged that there was a problem with doors !! Told me to bring it another day ! Paid more than £120 for nothing really - crap service. They only put pressure in my tyres and washed the car - and the washing was bad as well !!

Roy Alexander Louth, Lincolnshire Small family run garage. Bought an 89 F 535i SE off Roy Alexander, Car was valetted so good, you could have thought it was brand new. Subsequently, have had a few minor problems (tricky bulb changes) and have always accommodated us at very short notice. Always very helpful and made to feel welcome. Reasonably priced cars and spares. Very knowledgable.

also:

26/03/10: They all work there - mum, dad, son and daughter-in-law, and they treat their customers like one of the family as well. Friendly, helpful, honest, good at their job, reliable etc etc.

Years ago I bought a 535 from them and had the absolute confidence in it to drive straight to Germany. Have been returning to them ever since.

Astle BMW Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire Very helpfull, although I bought a car elsewhere they still value your custom. I've used them in the past and would recommend them ,excellent cars for sale as well.

Also:

Bought a nice year old car for 25k but after few months while washing the car and exerting minimal pressure on the wing mirror it simply fell off. Definite signs on the inside that it had been previously amateurly glued back on. When i took it back to the showroom both the salesman and technician agreed it had not been fitted correctly, yet the Used Car sales manager who made the final decision to charge me for a new one couldn't even be bothered to get up from his desk to look at the remains of the wing mirror; very poor on his behalf. After complaining to the owner though i was given the replacement at half price, although i shouldn't have had to pay anything at all.

Soper Lincoln Lincoln Poor service in March 2005. Appear to treat owners of older cars with contempt. Car running much more roughly after their service than before. Car not valeted or even washed. finished way behind schedule. Invoice ticked that service book stamped when it was not. Makes you wonder what else was not done! Told them after service that car was over-heating. They could not find fault. Service was expensive too(over £300.00). Cylinder head failed 2 days later.?? Coincidence. I complained but got no joy. Paid independent £1500.00 to sort out mess. I will never take any car there again.Rubbish service!!

Also:

Bought a Used BMW 325i Sport from Soper. As part of the deal I had a CD changer installed. The CD changer didn't work and the airbag light was on. They never rest the airbag light as requested when I came to collect the car. After frequent calls and fobbing be off with excuses, I decided to go to another dealership. It turns out they installed a faulty cd changer, needs new wiring loom for the airbag light and there are 2 outstanding recalls. So much for buying an approved used BMW from that dealership. Overall, Very poor after sales service and unwilling to help once they have your money. The only saving grace is BMW's 12 month warrenty to fix all the problems. I will not be taking my car back to them and advise people not buy a used car from Soper.

Also:

Similar experience to other author. Really sniffy attitudes from service advisors who can't even afford their own BMW's. Offer to match other dealers' quotes and then moan about how they've made no money on the work. Twice they've failed to carry out work on my car which should have been part of the scheduled service. 2 stars only because the mechanics seem reasonably competent on the oily bits and the dealer is at least better than its predecessor, Yeomans, who were truly awful.

Also:

12/01/06: Did an oil change on our mini - they forgot to replace the sump guard (only a huge bit of plastic, easy to miss I suppose). The mechanic has a size 9 boot - a perfect oily print was left on the carpet. Wouldn't go back.

Also:

11/10/06: Rubbish service from this main dealer, took it to them to rectify an overheating fault now i have a big bill and no car as they say i need new engine, was offered £250 from them for a 1997 528Sei, and they think they are doing me a favour, a real insult to my inteligence, i will never go back again to them or recommend to others.

Also:

30/10/06: Ignorant, arragant, snotty, unknowledgable, unwilling to help!!! Enough said!!

also:

04/12/08: Brought 120d 55 plate from soper 6 months ago very happy with it. just developed noise on engine took it back to soper to get sorted great service, ready when they said it would be and it was washed and cleaned inside too. would recommend to anyone

also:

24/03/10: Recently bought 53 M3 convertible privately. CD changer not working, which took me 5 seconds to establish. Took it to Soper to see if they could fix it. Car at garage for most of the day for them to tell me it doesn't work, will need changing (for a silly price of course) and charged me £66 for 45 minutes labour. I'll be going back and arguing it, was too flabbergasted initially and just paid. Of course they then produced the sheet listing wear on brake pads and tires and recommending changing pads and discs soon (recent MOT and no mention of any significant wear or disc problems). See my post on Sytners of Nottingham: there's a pattern with BMW dealers to find faults in order to make money. AVOID them like the plague.

Synter Nottingham
and
Nottingham Had my tv screen stolen from my m3, was parked in their car park. Nobody saw a thing. however they did arrange glass replacement and phoned police. friendly and apologetic. they have moved now.

Also:

Bought a second hand Z3 3.0 from them. Once the sale was complete it was like I didn't exist. The car was full of water the day after I bought it, and went back immediately for new seals. In fitting the seals they put a hole in the roof, but still sent it back to me! So, new roof. But what indifference, what rudeness!

Also:

How I love this website. A rare chance to get your own back on all of the garages (usually main dealers) who are happy to overcharge yet still give c**p service. I took my 3 series into Sytners for investigation of an electrical fault. Initially happy with the bill, I then discovered that my car had suffered both frontal impact damage and a broken nearside mirror and mirror housing whilst in their "care." They obviously hoped that I wouldn't notice until it was too late - fortunately I did, so free body repair, but they still needed two attempts to fix the mirror! I wouldn't go back there if paid.

Also:

Arranged to have my E36 serviced at Syner Nottingham and asked if they could drive me back to the City (1/2 Mile) in my car. They refused and said I could catch the bus, needless to say I cancelled the service. Very snotty attitude.

Also:

25/01/06: Took my Alpina B10 there for a service on 23/01/06 - 250ml round trip as being Alpina GB HQ I thought they'd be good.

Terrible service at reception, rude and very snobby. Service dept. phoned later to say that the car needed hundreds of pounds of 'extra' work.

One example (of MANY) was spark plugs at £180 - I pointed out that according to the history they had only been replaced 8,000 miles ago at which point they said "Well, at that age of car {6 years!} they will need replacing again..." - utter rubbish!

Submitted written complaint letter to the Serviving manager. DO NOT USE THEM - THEY'RE TERRIBLE!!!!

Also:

11/04/06: Very disappointed with their service when I took a car in to repair the boot lock recently. Labour charge is totally inflated for what they do.

A sales guy rang me up halfway through the day and told me my back two tyres needed replacing which would cost £229 each (BMW X5) !! total shocker! I proceeded to tell him the tyres didn`t need replacing and in any event I could get them cheeper elsewhere.

He got upset by this and proceeded to argue that I couldn`t get them much cheeper (oh yes I can) and that he would be instructing his engineer not to test drive the car when the work was done. To which I replied the engineer shouldn`t need to 'test drive' the car when replacing a boot lock.

Thanks Sytner but no thanks, total crooks.

Also:

02/01/07: Gladly took a small fortune off me for servicing my Z3 and looking at a squeeky rear brake. The brake was still squeeky when I picked it up though they had taken it apart. Later that evening the handbrake failed, fortunately on level ground. Took it back in and, to their credit, they repaired it for free. It still squeeks.

Also:

14/08/07: The parts department guys are brilliant; they know what parts go on your car so know what is probably wrong with it. The service staff are good too. Unfortunately the Techy bloke that staples paper together in the service area is a toffee spanner. He is rude, arrogant aloof and usually wrong. He single handedly gives the rest of the business a bad name. He makes Sytners look like they're out to rip off company car owners and its a big pity for them.

Also:

29/05/07: Very unfriendly!! . This is the second time I have been to sytner nottingham. Totally disgusted at the service they offered.

My cd player broke and needed to find out it its salvageable. I was planning to go for the ipod kit if the cd player could not be repaired. They ran a diagnostic and spent one hour to tell me that I need a new stacker and charged me £50 for the labour and diagnostics!!. I called up other service centres and they quoted a price around £35. Unbelievable!! My advice is never go there!!

also:

27/05/08: I recently moved from North West to Nottingham. I went to Sytner for my 3 series MOT, which was running very well with no problems whatsoever. Around 4 pm, I received the phone call saying that steering rack has play and needs replacement and will cost £1100. I was shocked. The engineer was bit pushy and kind of forced me to agree for repair. He said I have to tell him right now as he has to order the part and will start the job first thing in the morning. I had to say yes for the repair. After 1 hour (around 5 pm), I decied to seek a 2nd opinion and to take my BMW to private garage for MOT. I rang Sytner, and informed about my decision but was surprised and shocked when they told me that they have started the work and opened up the parts, and now i had to go with them.

also:

07/07/08: March 08 . Pulled over by the police and advised rear brake light out . Called in to buy a replacement bulb and realised i didnt have any cash .As its a company car i asked Sytners to put on the company account. They advised that They Could not do this as the account is with Sytner Leicester and not Nottingham. I asked if they could arrange to put it on Leicester's account and invoice me in the usual way. The jobs worth in parts said they could not - but if i filled in an application form and supplied them with trade references they could get an account raised within 2/3 days. I asked if they could phone Sytner Leicester who would give them a reference - they could not do this as they need official paperwork ! Any way went home got some cash and called into Halfords !!

also:

24/03/10: See my post on Soper Lincoln. A few years ago I bought a used BMW 316. Nothing but bad experiences with Sytner, as per the other post on Sytner. Every single time it went for a service, within an hour or two of dropping the car off I'd get a call from service listing other faults that needed fixing, adding hundreds of pounds to the bill, without fail. I actually expected the call after the first two services, and was never let down! They're overpriced thieves who put me off BMWs and the reason I sold the car after a couple of years. Alas, I fell in love recently and bought another used Beemer but will be using an independent garage.

Parkside Garage Worksop / Nottingham 10/01/09: I've taken 2 cars there for servicing in and repairs in the last 18 months after being virtually bent over and raped by main dealers. It's not much to look at but the 2 brothers who run it do fantastic work. A good old fashioned garage that seem to be able to fix anything.

also:

19/05/11: Did an excellent job on my 2004 320D SE when I required the swirl flaps to be removed. Courteous, knowledgeable and polite, all at a good price. Will definitely use them again.

also:

24/11/10: Headlamp bulb went and took car into this garage. Guys dropped what they were doing, fitted bulb straight away and wouldn't take any more than the cost of the bulb. My daughter took her car there as it had a juddering problem - they looked at it and diagnosed problem for her with no charge and no trying to take advantage of a young girl's inexperience in car matters. Would recommend to anyone.

HAC Service Centre Nottingham Ihad my e39 in for a oil service knowing it was lacking power, the fault was found during the service checks! the fault was sorted out in no time. very impressed with the all round customer service that i was given
Martin Wright
and
Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire Absolutely terrible service. Unbelievably rude. Tell you one price over the phone, than a much higher one when you turn up. You can ring the owner to complain, but he has the same couldn't care less attitude as his staff.

Also:

30/01/06: I've taken cars to Martin for years and cannot praise his service enough, he is always polite and courteous, will tell you exactly how much the job is going to cost. He always offers to collect and return the car to you. I've never had problems with any of my cars whilst Martin has been taking care of them .

Also:

30/01/06: They have been servicing my 5 series for almost 6 years, 62000 miles when I first stated with them, now 303,656 miles, just replaced eith another 5 series, which will again be entrusted to there expert attention.

Professional, friendly and honest service from Martin and all of his staff.

Also:

23/10/06: Martin does an excellent job at a fraction of the price of a main dealer. I have recommended him to four of my friends and they are now loyal customers.

Teeside Auto Techinicsal Services
and

and
North East, Thornaby Used them a few times now and overall they seem to be fairly good. Reasonably priced for an independant and they appear to know their stuff.Happy to diagnose for a reasonable price so that I can fix things myself. They also admit when they don't know what is wrong and on several occaisions have advised me not to spend my money!

Also:

Eddie and co are friendly, knowlegeable and are reasonably priced. On asking around for a BMW specialist in the North East many independents recommended Teesside Autotech as the ones they call when they get stuck. They have so far sorted the brakes, suspension and wheels/tyres and various other bits on my '93 530i Touring with a minimum of hassle, maximum of courtesy - and will always wash the car before returning it. Highly recommended.

Also:

E34 failed mot due to uneven front discs. Just new from eddie weeks earlier. Checked runout and found to be beyond tolerance. eddie argued and would not replace, rufund or return to his supplier. a nasty man - i wont use them again

Also:

23/11/06: Get the impression they know their stuff, but the guy on the desk was rude and argumentative for no reason and refused to even discuss the potential work they said needed doing. You don't need that kind of customer service when you're paying out hundreds of quid.

I took my car to a local garage and had the work done for 2 thirds the cost. Technically good. Customer service abysmal. I will never go back.

Also:

28/07/07: Used them a few times for my E36 328 and initially found them to be quite good. However after having a brake fluid change I discovered thet they had rounded off a bleed nipple and not replaced it. Silly considering it is such a cheap and easy part to fit. Worse still, I supplied some genuine BMW rear ball joints for them to fit. The parts cost about £50 and they chraged me 2 hours labour to fit them. However while doing some work on the car myself a few months later I discovered that they had not actually fitted them. Will never use them again.

BayMoW Hazel Grove, Stockport Couple of Ex BM technicians. Superb service levels and good prices. I always take my car there.

Also:

Ex BMW guys, well worth visiting and use all the latest diagnostic gear, they do NOT rip you off. Ask for Neil.

also:

Totally patronising - completely out of their depth in dealing with various, relatively simple, jobs on my E30 M3 Convertible, but not willing to say so. Kept the car for days, stringing me along and then announced 'we don't do restoration'. So, replacement of seat belts, repair of heater/air con controls is restoration??!! Very like some of the main dealers these days in having no appreciation of BMW heritage.

Also:

23/02/06: Routine service on my E36. Thorough and professional. Diagnosed broken rear sping and showed me replaced parts without prompting. Reasonable prices and car was cleaned. Why use a main dealer when there are independants like this?

Also:

29/01/07: I have used this garage for the last eight years and have nothing but praise. They did alot of work on my e30 318is and always showed parts they had changed and for small jobs such as changing of rear bulb didn't even charge.

David Holmes Stockport 04/10/06: Used to be fine but have become increasingly difficult, possibly due to change of ownership. Difficult to get to speak to anyone, and charged me for diagnosis of roof fault on my convertible, claiming it needed new roof (£3000 for parts alone). Took it to E30 BMW Centre in Wednesbury who diagnosed as simply stiffness, made a few adjustments for £10. I won't be going back to David Holmes.

also:

03/08/10: I bought a new X5 from David Holmes in April 2009. It had a service by them at 22k miles, and has had work done on 6 warranty claims. I took it in to David Holmes this week because the lights came on that the front brake pads needed replacing. They told me that the 2 front brake discs needed replacing also. The total cost of pads and discs would be £526. I told them I would take it somewhere else for a second opinion as the brake discs shouldn't have worn out at 26k miles and if they were wearing this badly why was it not picked up at the 22k service. I then took my X5 to BMTEC in Salford who told me that the brake discs David Holmes wanted to charge me £325.00 for didn't need replacing at all. They replaced the brake pads and now everything is fine. I think David Holmes could have given a better service, especially as I bought the car from them. Do yourself a favour and always get a second opinion.

Rockvale Motor Company Stockport 29/07/06: I always use this independant BMW dealer for servicing and maintainance. It does not matter if you have a old or new bmw ,they are always happy to help.

I have also bought several cars from them with no problems at all. I would recommend them to everyone in the area.

Also:

27/02/07: Had one 5 series, and two 3 series serviced by them.

Well satisfied with the quality of work, they don't cut corners, and certainly give me the impression that they know what they are doing.

Recommended to me by a fiend who has used them for at least 15 years!

also:

12/01/08: Excellent BMW knowledge, immediatly diagnosed the problem, & later fixed the problem. Very pleased with the service. God knows! how much a BMW main agent would have charged me to fix the erratic fault I had, if they could?

also:

03/11/09: Bought 4 BMW's from them, very efficient and helpful staff. The servicing and repairs undertaken are to a high standard and they only carry out work genuinely required. Highly recommended best garage in the area.

Bridgegate Derby West Midlands Bought a used BMW from them. Delivered to Scotland free and very polite. Excellent service.

Also:

I bought my 740i 2nd hand from another source, but they originally supplied it. They have been polite and helpful with everything - free, as well. Little things like "What is the code for the radio?", "Can you fix the dead bulb in the screen vent illumination" etc. Nothing seems to much trouble. Their premises are smart and pleasant, even by BMW Main Dealer standards. My only regret is that they are too far away from my home (I live in South London) for me to have the car serviced by them. Great car, the E38, by the way!

Also:

04/05/06: Now taken over by Stratstone. Vast buildings and attentive staff but a bit too much of the "front brake pads a bit low" and "broken rear coil spring" (which I heard more than once while waiting for my car) for my liking. Also, they don't always have the parts in and they don't always cancel your service indicators. I'm slowly working my way through all of the E. Midlands dealers - quite disillusioned. Next car - Honda CRV!

Hughes Brothers Derby 28/02/06: Excellent, ex-Sytner Nottingham bunch of guys! Really knowledgeable (recently diagnosed heather control valves problems on my E36 323 by the use of a "Mk 1 ear"), very fair and open pricing, cheerful and pleasant to deal with. A bit of a hidden gem, as most of their work comes through word of mouth, and I cannot recommend them enough.

Also:

31/03/07: Had my 318 Compact serviced with Hughes Brothers today including MOT saving over £100 + it had even been washed before returning! Have always in the past used Bridgegate however since being taken over by Strathstone, the trust disappeared over night I only do 3,500 miles a year, the car is as new and they were saying the springs had gone plus something to do with brakes cant remember - never believed it, never go back will always use Hughes Brothers down to earth and excellent value for money.

also:

30/04/09: I cannot praise these guys enough. After being continually ripped off and lied to by the BMW Dealership in Chesterfield, Hughes brothers were recommended to me by word of mouth. They've looked after my P reg 323 coupe and now a newer 320 saloon. The service is always the same - exceptional! They take the time to explain things and give any options available. They even spent an hour or so diagnosing a problem for me which turned out to be a faulty tyre, and didn't charge me. They are friendly, helpful, charging is honest, open and good value and they always wash my car - nice touch!

also:

18/04/10: Having had many prestige cars, I have used many dealers. Hughes Brothers are an excellent indy: great customer service from the lads on the shop-floor (Anthony & Sean), excellent prices, rational and helpful. My M3 shall return to them for future servicing.

European Car Specialists Derby - Burton on Trent 5/9/07 - Recommended by a friend and had to use them after my 523 blew a plug big style. Initially assessed parts of the plug in the cylinder and quoted for a head-off job and an insert fitted. Rang me back next day after looking at it again, no need for the head off, inserts could be fitted in-situ. All in all 3 inserts fitted, new plugs all round and a new coil. Total charge was only 2/3 of what they'd ariginally quoted and it was picked up and delivered. Top guys, will use them again and recommend to anyone.
Knights BMW Stoke 27/02/08: Absolutely Fantastic facility, They run an older car servicing programme if older than 6 years. I got my E36 325 an oil service for £55 including the dreaded vat. Even offered me a loan car for an extra £15. Great to see a dealer trying to compete with the independants
Autologic Hessle, Hull no comment!

Also:

Did my air con service at extremely short notice while I waited. Excellent service (better than local franchise). Would recommend these guys, definitely know their stuff.

Also:

Always excellent service from good people who value the customers. Independent BMW specialists who certainly do know what they are doing, and I have more faith in them than the Dealerships.

I had a problem when the plastic surrounding the fan at the front of the engine was broken during a service. I brought the matter to their attention, and the situation was resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. I will continue to take BMWs to this Specialist.

Also:

15/11/06: tried allover to get some one to fix my 330 ssg gear box,no reverse ,these lads stripped and repaired it .

dealers wanted £3370 for a new box. autologic inc a new clutch was £1200 great job would recomend and will 100% use again.

Also:

29/01/07: I have being a customer to the hull main dealer for nearly 20 years and have just got fed up with there attitude so I gave autologic a try.

I did not know what to expect but found a super reception /waiting aera ,a modern work shop (so clean and bright) and all the staff helpful ,I had a oil service done which was cheaper than the dealer but I would have being happy paying the same due to the way you are looked after.

All the best for autologic in there 5th year.

Also:

15/05/07: I had a card left on my x5 windscreen, I had never heard of autologic I live in hull had a service and front pads. They were fair and honest and full of nice cars ,nice to find a place like this these days....

also:

26/09/07: Popped in to book Microfilter change.Guy said he,d do it whilst I waited...very good service

also:

18/11/08: very easy to get to with nice clean workshop with very polite staff who definately know their stuff. very good price of 270 for a service 1 inspection, new micro filter, and also had my break fluid and antifreeze changed. will definately use them again.

also:

06/12/11: I've been using this garage for over 6 years now. Outstanding service over the years, very knowledgeable owners and technicians, so I'm a very happy customer!

Williams of Rochdale Rochdale Tried the Four Plus scheme on a 120,000-mile 1990 325i Sport needing Inspection II/MoT/cambelt/new discs etc. They made every effort to cut the bill. Still expensive at 1,000, but that bought 1,400-worth of parts and labour and a high standard of service. When I pointed out two faults they had overlooked they fixed them free of charge.

Also:

Never go to the dealers!!! Really poor service for a dealership and my 520 SE is only 3 years old. The girl at the desk didn't know a thing about BMWs and they are all too busy trying to sell new cars (can you blame them?)

Also:

The service dept have been superb in bringing my E39 M5 up to standard after buying a dog privately!! Real generosity in keeping costs down, negotiating with BMW for reduced parts costs (VANOS) when out of warranty. I really appreciate the genuine efforts to help me if in their power to do so.

Sales dept a different matter. Lost the sale of a Mini coz they would not return calls, and have been incredibly inept in handling interest in a new M5.

I would not buy a car from them as a matter of principal now! They will get all my servicing and repairs though, and I guess they make better money from that!

Priory Newcastle upon Tyne I found this garage 1st class on price and service. The car was immaculately valeted which is supposed to be part of the service.

Also:

Polite, courteous and Margaret on reception is the most pleasant and welcomig receptionist of any BMW dealership I have visited. Car is returned immaculate from knowledgeable staff and servicing don't rip off.

Also:

Brilliant dealership, and yes Margaret is a star! John in service knows his stuff incredibly well and once diagnosed a problem by hearing it over my mobile phone! Used to use Fawdingtons but they are extremely poor by comparison.

Auto Bavaria Newcastle upon Tyne 01/08/07: George the owner is great, gets the job done quickly for a very reasonable prices! Has do all the work on my E36 M3 evo since i've had it
Prestige German Cars Tyne & Wear (South Shields) Superb service and prices. I've trusted both my E36's and my E30 convertible to these guys and they really know their stuff. The owner Jon is a former BMW Master Technician (one of only 42 apparently) and he also gives free advice via the BMW Club (North East) web site www.bmwclubne.co.uk They also do VAG and Merc if your missus persists in owning an "A" class or a Golf.

Also:

14/01/07: This guy knows his stuff and gives honest advice, saving money on the main dealer prices plus a more competant service - what more could you want

Priory Lancaster EX. BMW PARTENERS TOP CLASS WORK +GOOD PRICES

also:

VERY HELPFUL VERY GOOD WORK AND VERY GOOD COST WISE

Also:

22/08/06: Great guys a pleasure to deal with, good prices best garage for bmw in area

also:

01/10/07: Excellent service & advice. Saved me £120 on the quote from Main Dealer for Rear Bottom Bush replacement.

Benham
also:
Wolverhampton Replaced small water hose from throttle body to cylinder head and charged over 200 !!! Must have taken all of 30 mins. When asked about cost, claimed to have removed inlet manifold to get to pipe (Not needed) When asked if they had replaced the inlet manifold gasket as per BMW recommendations told it was not neccessary!! Don't go there.

Also:

its fantastic, the guy who called it bentham has obviously got little idea about cars. im always servicing cars there

Also:

Took my m3 e46 in for crank bearing recall, work carried out fine but they refused to stamp service book, was told i would have to pay £15 for courtesy car, they forgot to charge me,ha ha ha, but charged me £80 to inspect my glovebox lock which was faulty, and didnt even rectify it as they said part wasnt in stock, staff helpfull but overpriced, hate the fact that bmw seem to think that they can blatantly rip you off and you wont bat an eye.

Also:

main dealer. took car there for problem with rear console under warranty, replaced wrong part

also:

20/02/08: Took in for Scheduled Service plus asked them to check the CD changer which was skipping tracks. Service OK, additional items & labour very expensive. Some numpty in the workshop however managed to rip off the power cable to the CD changer when removing it from the car - then the service manager reported that the fault was no power to the CD Changer, this was the problem and it was going to cost me £150.00 to fit a new loom!! I e-mailed him back to tell him I had checked the power cable & power to the unit the previous day - which was fine & he said his 'Technician' had to remove the connector as it was shorting inside and this could cause the car to set on fire!! (The only thing on fire I think are his pants! (Just wish the experience had been something to smile about) AVOID

also:

08/04/08: Took my car in for a routine oil change service, paid £188 for priviliege, but was told this didn't include diesel filter and this would cost extra £90.

2months later I checked level of oil and found it was just above the minimum level. Asked the service desk why it wasn't full and was told it can be filled up to max if I bring it in and BUY 1 Litre of oil. I like my car but not Benham or the prices they charge.

also:

31/01/10: Took my car in for a routine service got it back with all the electrics faulting(indicators, central locking, dash lights etc etc) Took the car straight back only to be told that my radio was causing all the faults and would need replacing £500. Electrics reset and car handed back to me only to find the the parking sensors were not working. Contacted customer relations(joke) who said they would not look at my car again until I replaced radio, which I might add was working fine.I then had a 3 week battle over the phone with customer relations who never got back to me despite numerous messages left. Eventually they agreed to isolate the radio to prove that they were right and I was wrong, at 1st they wanted to charge me for this until I argued my point. Took the car back, radio isolated, keys handed back to me and suprise suprise the parking sensors were still not working, took the car back again and eventually sensors reset and radio reconnected. No further problems whic! h suggest the radio was never at fault in the first place. This was the worst service I have ever had and I will never use them again. Bunch of cowboys who have no idea of what they are talking about and almost got away with unnecessarily charging £500. Oh and they also carried out the wrong service on my car. Totally useless !!!

E30 BMW Centre Wolverhampton 04/10/06: Real specialists on convertibles, especially E30s but also E36, really know roofs but can do all jobs on BMW and outstanding value on parts and labour. No fancy premises but for pure knowledge and skill Jason and Bill are great - and fun too.
Benham Stockport 20/09/06: Absolute Useless..Total waste of time...

They fitted a passenger window motor to my 3 series, a week later it failed and they didn't want to know, Tried charging me for the repair and another new motor...Use BAYMOW instead much better service

Victoria BMW
and
Harrogate Although a mainline dealer and therefore charging the normal extortionate rates Victotia have been absolutely marvellous with our last four BMW's, offering expert advice and doing it with a smile. Heartily recommended.

Also:

11/02/07: Absolute rip off. My 530D Sport was taken there after the AA couldn't get it started. Would have taken to Atlas BMW near York, who are marvellous, but the AA could only take to Harrogate. OK, they charged over £200 and after leaving, and stopping off for provisions at ASDA, the fault reoccurred. They have no idea what they are doing. The Service Manager assured me he would ring back, when I phoned him on Saturday morning, within 30 minutes. No joy. When I rang to contact him I found out he'd gone home! The Sales Mgr couldn't phone him as he didn't have his number and the Service Mgr doesn't have a company mobile. How clever is that?

If you live in North Yorkshire, do yourself a favour, steer clear of Victoria BMW. They charged over £25 just for charging the battery - mega con. Go to Atlas BMW near York, ask for Andy. Superb service, excellent knowledge and REAL world pricing !

Sandals BMW Wakefield Went to get some parts, absolutely appalling service, the guy called Dean, short idiot works in parts, with no interest in BMW at all, over the counter said it had gone over 4 minutes to his finishing time, raising his voice, saying how he wanted to go home! How Could BMW employ an pr*ck like that!

Overall, terrible service, had check over done at sandall on E30 318IS, next day chain broke, destroying the whole engine, not pretty at 6 in the morning on the M6!

Also:

Aboslutly crap service, soo rude, especially the short ugly guy thats sits in parts department, also not very clued up BMW's STAY AWAY!

Also:

Got my 530i Sport serviced at the new site in wakey, found the service first class, i left a couple of probs on the car and didnt tell em when i booked it in, they rang letting my know the 2 probs and gave me a price to sort em.car was ready when promised and spotless inside and out. still cost over £500, but thats what i expected.

Also:

Curteous, car ready on time, able to see me at short notice, price not through the roof (well not for BMW anyway :-) ). Just like Sytners *used to be*.

Also:

Had my 528 looked after there for 5 years and have no hesitation in recommending them. Usual BMW prices (expensive) but always done right first time. They call you up if they find a problem. Only had one problem in 5 years.

Also:

01/03/0: Very professional arrogant humourless and expensive - bit like a top class whore but the same underneath so why pay all the money - got caught when they told me my washer fluid was low and would I like them to fill it up - ok says I - forgot to tell me it would cost me £45 (felt like a right tit) Got my 320ci a couple of years ago on a pcp- promised by smarmy arsed salesmen it would be easy to swap after 3 years (4 year deal) surprise surprise - negative equity and still is. will not be going back to them for replacement this year still hoping something untoward will happen to car not that I am bitter or anything

also:

14/01/08: Basically has a smash on the drivers side, these guys fixed it. Well when I say fix it I mean sort of. Took them 12 weeks to do it, and it's been back 4 times in the space of a year to fix it. The last time I took it back they tried to say that it was me that had caused it! Useless, F**king useless!

also:

23/01/10: I used to work at Sandal BMW for 2 years as a service advisor.I left of my own volition.I was shocked to see some of the things they got up to when customers weren't looking and would say a good 50% of the service department are downright dishonest.Polish Technicians with a poor grasp of English are employed here which caused endless problems. If you're in this area I'd recommend going elsewhere. This is an opinion but an informed one.

also:

19/05/11: I have worked for Sandal for ovrer 10 years and can only say the comment posted by the service advisor are the comments of a bitter failure who should be more careful with what he says unless he can substaniate thier comments. Sandal have many long serving staff and loyal customer who have enjoyed 5* service.

Atlas Autos Sherriff Hutton, York Independant specialist with over 12 years experience in all types of BMW. Always willing to help, excellent, friendly service, and what he doesn't know about BM's ain't worth knowing!

Honest, to the point and not overpriced...I refuse to take my cars anywhere else now. Excellent.

also:

Good old fashioned service, polite and all the time in the world for the customer these fellas know what they are doing and won't sting you like the local main dealer. If you live in or around York you would be a fool not to try these guys first.

Also:

23/06/07: 2003 E46 insp.1 inc front pads, wear sensor, fix exhaust blow, pair wiper blades, bulb: £235 inc VAT. Good service and car ready on time, no problems.

Also:

28/07/07: Good friendly service. Only carry out work that needs doing and very reasonable when it comes to prices. I would definately recomend them

also:

06/10/08: Pretty much as described previously.I found them to be as helpful and sincere as you would hope for! It was interesting watching them working on others cars whilst they were repairing mine.Massive care and attention to detail, and thats when they didnt know they were being watched.7 series - no problem

Synter Solihull Solihull Arrogant, ignorant and don't return phone calls, although account customer.

Also:

Over priced, dont return calls when promised and arrogant attitude.

Also:

1) 3 series needed a new set of locks after theft from home. The lockset cost was 200+ and labour 2 hours. Sytner quoted 100 per hour which made the total bill about 500. In the end I went to Knights at Stoke, whose labour charge was nearer 65 per hour.

2) Same 3 series, with 53000 on the clock failed its MOT due to play in lower o/s ball joints. Sytner quoted over 500. Still evaluating where to go, hence found this site....

Also:

Took my 6 month old 330 back to Sytner after the front left alloy wheel began to flake. They claimed it had been curbed even though the flaking was happening towards the centre of the alloy. After 3 months of arguments and court threats they finally admitted the wheel had been refurbished prior to selling me the car and agreed to replace it at their cost.

Also:

10/03/06: Purchased an approved e46 325ci sport, dealer conveniently forgot to tell me the car was an import !!!! AVOID

Also:

08/05/07: Very poor. Every time I have taken my car in for something, I have had to go back again for them to fix something they have caused. Last 3 times, complained to the service manager who is equally as useless as the monkeys that work on your car.

also:

23/03/09: I bought new 3 series and part of the deal was to have five years servicing at a discounted price included. The first time I went to reception to book my car in, a really snotty woman with a withering smile said to me "This is a BMW dealership, are you sure you are in the right place my dear?" Every time I took the car in for a "free" service it needed a little something repaired/replaced 2 new tyres, the air conditioning cleaned, the brake pads replacing, 2 more new tyres etc. Every visit cost me at least £300 plus. Nasty, arrogant, rude, money grabing arseholes.

also:

29/09/10: Avaoid these guys, they have no concept of diagnosis before problem solving. They will just replace part after part until the problem goes away. Monkeys in the workshop with baboons managing them.

MMT Automotive Solihull 14/04/08: fantastic service rectified a problem Sytner couldn't find. Took it in for a missfire and water leak into the boot. MMT sorted both problems out within the same day and only charged me £180 for a coil pack and finding the leak.Doesn't try and rip you off and knows his stuff. very reliable would recoment to anyone that owns a bmw

also:

01/03/09: Good honest service value for money and reliable.service mot with books stamped with previouse bmw experiance call Ian 07789797568.

also:

17/03/09: COST EFECTIVE VEHICLE SERVICEING AND WELL RECOMENDED.DIAGNOSTICS AND VERY KNOWLEDGABLE.

also:

24/03/09: Very cost effective vehicle servicing. Took my 325ci in for a service and it cost me £265 for an inspection 2 as well as that Ian repaired an exhaust undershield which was rattling.Book was stamped and well impressed recomended.call 07789797568 Berkswell coventry www.mail-order-tyres.com

NCB Autokraft Solihull Excellent friendly service from ex BMW engineers. Established over 20 years as a quality independant. Customer service is superb, my 328 came back from an Insp. II with the engine bay gleaming where NCB had cleaned it! They also kept the garage open for an hour and a half past closing in order to fit a modified inlet manifold for me as I needed the car the next day. Can't fault them in any respect.

also:

10/10/07: Excellent Service - know their stuff, and don't rip you off, will collect and deliver if needed, replaced a nearside door mirror cowling for me at one third of the cost of a dealer(2nd hand)

Synter Sheffield
and
Sheffield Needed a drivers side window regulator changed. Waited in the comfortable waiting area for most of the morning, mechanic handed my car key back but the window was still not flush with rubber on the top corner on my e36 coupe. I then went back into dealership and they said they would have to book car for full day.

Two weeks later and one full day car being at dealer got keys back from same mechanic he stated that it just needed adjustements, so I took his word for it, went to car and noticed the gap was gone so assumes all was fixed.

Driving to work wind window down and it clonks and creaks as if it were going to break. Called dealer up on three occassions and no one has got back to me yet. Totally poor service from a well known main dealer. One star awarded for the tea and coffee consumed whilst there.

Also:

5 years ago this was the place to be, memorably described by Quienten Wilson as "The posh BMW outfit". How the've gone downhill:

1) Courtesy cars need 2 - 3 WEEKS booking before hand (used to be one week at most)

2) Saturdays are hardly available (used to be a few days prior notice

3) You sit in their reception area like an idiot for 15 mins waiting for your "personal engineer" - used to me that you were greeted immediatly by the service manager who could remember your name on site

4) Used to always get a follow-up phone call to check all was still OK and that you were satisfied - they never do that now

5) Problems now remain unfixed and they don't believe the customer's always right any more.

Oh dear - how the mighty have fallen.

Also:

I took my 318Ise to Sytners of Sheffield to be repaired after light damage to the front left corner (through my insurance). Sytner missed several jobs they estimated for, including replacement of many parts. The repair to my BWM was deemed unsafe by Nowrich Union and ended up being to taken to Sandall BMW in Wakefield as I got tired of being fobbed off by Sytners (over three visits back). Sandalls have great customer service. Sytners ended up charging over £3500 for a bonnet wing and bumper. AVOID AVOID - got to Sandalls or Bridgegate (in Chesterfield)

Bought a one year old 528 from them in 1999 and after 7 months of hell, I got my money back and went to Sandals of Wakefield - wonderful company. At Sytners, they provided a car that went back to their garage 17 time in 7 months, they lied, they were incompetent, said they fixed things when they hadn't etc. I likened the Sales guys as Arthur Daleys with Armani suits. They should have had a sheepskin coat and a copy of Glasses Guide. They are in a Sheffield backstreet and should stay a backstreet dealer.

Also:

13/03/06: Went to Sytner with a steering problem on my E46 which another local garage failed to fix. (cheap is not always cheerful) Sytner had the car for the day, had really good prices and were more than helpful. As a woman going in on my own i felt completely at ease by Scott my team manager. I cannot praise these guys enough and i'm booked in for a Inspection 2 service next week.

Also:

16/04/06: I have used Sytner Sheffield for the past 10 years and have purchased all my new and used BMW's from them.. The Service I have recevied from them in terms of new car sales and servicing has been fantastic. Nothing is ever too much trouble and the charges are always reasonable.

To put in into perspective I have bought over 15 cars from them and always keep going back! Repeat business says it all! Thoroughly recommend!

Also:

29/11/06: I am shocked at the comments made against sytner sheffield. The service department is always very good to me?It shocks me is that clearly nobody knows how much dealers like Ford, renault charge per hour...its worth a call.. let me tell you, also, if you did your research Sytner Sheffield are now price matching all local so called specialists " quarry" mmmmm. Anyway.. why would you? I borrowed a brand new 320d ( FOC) when I booked in for an Inspection 1 on my z3. Rest assured, my z3 had good quality oil in it!!!, a sure sign of a CHEAP quote is cooking oil bubbling away.!!Genuine BMW care and a proper stamp in the service book, is what counted when my car was traded in, via sytners used car network.. What a topguy, Mr Shaun Wallace.!! Also, so what if the service department found over a £1000 pounds worth of additional work. Id rather know what I might be facing inforth coming months, so I can budget.. rather than being shocked on the MOT!! Would rate sytner sheffield 10/10. My comment is, your pay a fair price, for an outstanding car, can you afford to run it? Stop slating the proffesional approach by proffesional people. What I did realise is that when my car went to a so called BMW specialist is..that it went to sytner sheffield for the work behind my back, So I paid for the specialist & syters work. Times have changed... try them, trust me at least you have piece of mind. a very happy customer, that drives past stratstone chesterfeld, past quarry motors ( tried them all) from derbyshire to use Sytner Sheffield! - also what nice coffee.

also:

13/12/07: TOTAL CROOKS ! AVOID AT ALL COSTS ! My car went in for a simple proceedure, but when I got it back it had another (more serious) fault. Theyt ried to claim this was entirely co-incidental. Eventually agreed to let them do the repair but told them they must provide the 'faulty' part. Took this part (which they obviously assumed was too complicated for me to know otherwise) to a local mechanic who DEMONSTRATED to me there was no fault whatsoever ! A member of their own workshop staff even told me they will do anything to make money as they are doing so badly as a company at the moment. My advice is to avoid them like the plague ! Also had experience with Nottingham and they are no better !

Nidd Vale Wetherby Wetherby, Yorkshire Booked my BMW 5 series in for service & MOT. First time I had taken my car to a non BMW dealer. The service receptionist (Barry) was fantastic, took my details, car type, engine & chassis number.

On the day of the service & MOT everything run smoothly, the time he said it would be ready and the cost - Spot On! And the most important thing.... He kept me informed!

Paragon BMW

Hull Quiet possibly the worse BMW main dealer in the country. Highly over priced, used cars are very poorly prep'd and the service centre is a joke. They seem to think that, as they are the only BMW dealer within 1.5hrs drive of Hull they can behave how they like. You have been warned.....

Also:

Overpriced and poor service. They seem to think 180+vat for an oil change is good value - who are they kidding. Like all main dealers i have visited in the area, Malton, Castle, Wheatley Hall, all the service technicians seem to be trainee test pilots and get their kicks out of thrashing your pride and joy. On the look out for a good independant.

Also:

Took car in for service in an emergency, was worried by your comments and do not have a problem, very professional and courteous, the previous comments must have been on a very bad day or a joke. I would definately go back.

also:

25/02/09: Used to be OK but now they are part of the Stratstone group they seem to be more interested in cash flow. i.e. how they can flow your cash into their tills for overpriced poor quality work. Was told the problem I had required 4 new coils (£200) didn't fix the problem - no apologies, no offer to repay, but then wanted to charge £150 to update the software so they could work out the fault!! Said that it would take six hours to update the software (what do they keep the software on, an abacus!!!). Never use again.

Malton Motors
and
Malton Been using MM for years for my company car. Now taking my own 530 sport to them (but purchased elsewhere) and the service is just as good as ever. Gary the parts guy does exactly what he says he will so, Kevin the service manager gives you honest advice and the sales people are very knowledgable. Great people to do business with.

Also:

21/0/4/06: went to Malton to discuss buying 320d .Test drove car , agreed it was okay and the salesperson said he would ring me back with valuation for part ex on my Z3 .week later and still no call .will not be going back .

Also:

27/09/06: I went to MM on a recommendation, maybe i caught them on an off day but i was treated with utter contempt, the prices were way too high and the sales manager, a Mr. Tim Walker wouldn't give me the time of day (because i'm 26 and like to dress scruffy). I ended up buying my new M5 elsewhere

also:

06/10/08: Tony - Service coordinator - Should be Service Manager - Good integrity & honest. Stefan - Service something - total opposite! Parts department - Very helpful - Appear to be the lepers stuck out the back - unlike the special sales people!!!

Malton Motors BMW North Yorkshire Having read all the woes about main dealers I can only say that I have been dealing with MM for over 20 years. I've always found the service staff very helpful, polite, phone you back, report to you after a service, do the job properly and, of course, charge a fortune but it's money well spent if you don't have a good specialist on your doorstep. The sales staff have improved lately (from being arrogant in the past) but, there again, I've never bought a car from them 'cos they are expensive, even compared with other dealers.

also:

31/03/08: Very good aftersales service I have to say (Tony). Bodyshop - I have had good service here too (Daniel Crow). The sales staff are good too, the only annoynace is that the business mgr guy will not come and talk to you in person which is always a bit disrespectfull I think. Overall I would recommend them.

Impact Motors Otley

Poole Bank, near Leeds

Recomended by another BMW owner. Excellent service, good prices and no 'making up stuff'. I know a main dealer mechanic in leeds and he said he was good too. Richard is a bit quiet, not ignorant though, but don't expect to much conversation!

Also:

At last thanks to your website I have found an honest garage. I cannot recommend the garage highly enough. Access a little difficult and no small talk but everthing done that needed to be done at a third of the price of my local main BMW dealer. I was also told that some of the work I needed to have done by the main dealer was unnecessary. My family will all use this garage in the future. Try them they deserve your support.

also:

13/09/09: Not actually at "Poole", but at "Main Street, Pool In Wharfedale, Otley, LS21 1LH"

Mill BMW Sunderland Great service from this Main Dealer. Courteous and efficient. They phone if there are delays or whether to proceed with a repair or not. I was very happy with them.

Also:

Had nothing but great service from this garage. Usual rates but feel very confident with them. Paul and David in Service Dept are most helpful.

Robert Stern Evesham Worcestershire/midlands When i went over to buy my z4 i was ignored obviuusly didn't look right maybe. So there i was ready to buy a car no salesman even glanced up at me and when i asked for assistance said they would come in a minite and didn't bother. But i wanted the car !!! So i presisisted and got my lovely black z4. When i went to pick it up a week later similar story wasn't a good experience. Have taken my car back for service ok but i mentioned on the phone that my battery light was on but they didn,t fix it going back again this week...Also today i have had a recalll notice something about the fuel pump resister being faulty. Should i be worried about this there was no information on the letter. ....Mrs invisible
Castle BMW York - York The service dept must have thought I fell out of a tree with their charges and the showroom "salesman" was full of his own importance, would only go there again if it was for warranty work
Godfrey Hall Shrewsbury
and
Shrewsbury Very friendly staff but have been unable to fix anything that has been wrong with my car. Had a CD changer that wasn't working from day 1, a tear in my leather seats which i noticed only after bringing the car back home. My car has been in their workshop at least 7 times: the last time it was there for a week, however the problems still persist and they have no answer for it.

Also:

Good dealership to deal with. They lose a star however because like most dealerships they are still overpriced, even after my 7+ discount. I just paid £600 for a new catalytic converter today, which I think is a bit much. I'm going to try specialist cars next time.

Also:

Took my 750iL in there for a service, discovered next day that one of the rear wheels only had two of the five bolts tightened, the others fell out when I removed the plastic cover. Given I'd been in excess of 120mph in the car earlier I was not impressed!

Specialist Cars Shrewsbury 28-SEP-2008: I have been taking BMWs (Z3 M Coupé, multiple E30s, E46, and now E38) here on and off for over three years. Very knowledgeable, very pleasant, excellent value for money, and twice have fixed problems other shops have bodged. I highly recommend Dave (the boss) very experienced, brilliant with electrical problems: very helpful and interested in the cars (it's not just a job!). Also all the crew that I have met have been competent and friendly.

This is NOT to be confused with 'Shrewsbury Specialist Cars' which is a Used Car Sales shop

P.A.Roberts Shropshire 09/03/10: Very helpful and knowledgeable people. Have been specialising in BMW's for around 30 years I think. Very impressive service, would definitely use again and highly recommended.
Quarry Motors Sheffield Been looking after my E30 Touring for 4 years - always been straight and fair with me, always done their best to keep me informed, etc. Mechanics know their Beemers.
Burton Motor Workshop Midlands I can't speak too highly of these guys. A small service and repair shop specialising in BMW, they can be relied on to do a good, honest job at a reasonable price.

also:

19/05/09: The 2 directors started this service at the end of the 90s. With both BMW and Mercedes training and experience, they offered practical service to dealer standards of expertise but with affordable prices based on a simple but well-equipped workshop in a small industrial estate. They do a valid and very nice stamp in the service booklet for you.

There is a very different feel to this company, run by these two clever engineers with a quality background, who have made engineering their prime focus, with customer service the only reason to be in business, and job satisfaction to them as powerful a reward as their salary. By contrast, I sometimes view BMW main dealers as being led by powerful marketing or finance magnates, busy chasing their own bonuses and fees and stock options, having the gloss and style of Sales as their prime focus, with service provided as a necessary evil merely to help them achieve manufacturer's targets which support their over-the-top lifestyles and big egos.

As a hands-on engineer myself, I've always been reluctant to let any garage near my cars, and even more reluctant to pay premium prices merely to receive a smart invoice from a salesman that says work has been done, whether or not it actually has.

To me, giving my car to a garage to be serviced was rather like asking someone to go to the cinema to watch a film for me - why would I want to miss the enjoyment? Alas, when working at one end of the country and living at the other, I had no time left and just needed help.

So I first used them in 2001. Since then the Burton Motor Workshop (clever that - BMW) has done most of my routine servicing on my two BMWs - E39, E61 - and wife's Mercs - C180, A160. Actually, it is usually one of the directors who picks up my car, at 7:30am on his way to work, and returns it late in the evening on his way home. They work LONG hours for their own company.

Engineering Service at Burton Motor Workshop IS the product - they are proud of it, and good at it. They have been reluctant to dilute their product with employees they do not know well. They have taken-on only a few staff, who are also caring and good at what they do. Now that I'm retired and the complexity of cars has increased, I'm happy to give them all my servicing. They have earned my trust.

Of course, they have grown: they now buy and sell some cars, do their own MoTs, and have moved to much larger premises close to the centre of Burton-upon-Trent. You can pop in to assess them yourself - meet Carl (the tall one with the thick black hair) and Jeremy (er - the opposite), and I'm sure you'll find these are real good people. Their company is built in their image.

Lister Park BMW Bradford All I can say is the service/parts dept is first class with good customer care. Reasonable prices for a sixteen year old E30. The technicians are a good set of lads too. Saved me a lot of time and money. Courtesy cars have never been a probelm too. I have been with them now for four years and overall I'm very happy. Give them a try.
Roger Clarke Motor Engineers Melmerby, Ripon, North Yorkshire A great local garage with good customer service. Very reasonable prices for repairs. If you are local, they will even drop you off at home/place of work. That's what I call good custome care. I had a fairly moderate oil leak on my BMW, so decided to take it to Victoria BMW in Harrogate. After leaving the car with them for a day, they told me the probelm was fixed and it was nothing to get worried about. A few days later and you guessed it, the oil leak was back. Enough said. Took the car over to Roger Clarke and hey presto diagnosed and fixed within 2 hours. I find that there are some Main Dealers, (not all) who have no idea what they are doing, and worse of all charging people like me and you over £100 an hour. That's crazy, how can they justify that sort of money??
Mercury Prestige Vehicle Service & Repair Aldershot A lucky find for me. I bought my 530D about 18 months ago and the first service quote from the main dealer sent me looking for alternatives and that's when I found Mercury. The two guys there are brilliant - helpful, knowledgable - they even diagnosed a fault over the phone and had the (right!) part ready for me that afternoon.

Always ready to go that extra mile and close to the train station if you have to be elsewhere. About the only downside is that it needs more parking for all their customers! Can't recommend them highly enough.

Sycamore BMW
and
Peterborough Got a quote for replacing trailing arm bushes and front ball joints on my old E36. They were asking about £600 for each job! What a joke! I got it done at another main BMW dealer and it came to under £200! Don't think the service guy knew what he was talking about at all. Once had booked for a service and requested a loan car which was not available on the day. Had to wait for 30mins for them to find me car.

Also:

08/05/06: Very expensive labour at £100 per hour, but staff very friendly and accomodating. I only had 2 sensors replaced (1 hour), so can't really comment on quailty? Parts department very good and parts prices not over-inflated.

Thompsons BMW Specialist Peterborough 17/08/06: Took my 328 convertible for a rear window change as someone tried nickin it. Thompson changed the window but blew a fuse and my hood stopped working. When i got there he said 'u didnt tell me ur hood weren't workin'. I had to get it realigned by BMW!!' Not good service at all.
Mike Rider Simpson St Off Linthorpe Rd Middlesbrough Started using Mike Rider two years ago after my solicitor recommended him. Both of us have found the same courteous, effecient and cost effective service. expect big bills with beemers but I have been pleasantly surprised how even very complicated stuff can be sorted by Mike. Spit and saw dust but Mike is BMW trained and has seen me to 150000 miles of happy motoring
Holmeward Service Bay Halifax, West Yorkshire 28/01/06: Outstanding!!! I own a 1995 318is coupe and they have never been anything less than superb. They area a small garage but offer the level of service that Rydale Sutton Coldfield or Synter Bradford could only aspire too. On numerous occasions they have delivered the car back to me or offered a replacement just so I didn't have to take a taxi home. Adey is an great mechanic, offering sound advice. Many times when I was in despair at what I thought was enormous repair bills they have said "Bring it in and we'll have a look" then sorted the problem with extremely reasonable cost. Use these people they are great.
West View Garage Halifax, West Yorkshire 28/01/07: A first class service provided by Mark Gully (garage owner) who is a fully qualified BMW technician,he looks after your car as if it was his own using genuine BMW parts, fast friendly and extremely reasonable prices,I have benn a customer of Marks' for over a year and have recommended him to numerous people who have all come back to me with glowing reports about the service received at West View Garage.

Definitely 5 stars here.

Also:

06/06/07: My beloved and very sick Z3 needed a new cat it was dead on the tarmac. The main dealer in Leeds was about as unhelpful and obtuse as it is possible to be. Mark did a first-class job, didn't service it as I'd requested as he said it didn't need it, he just did a couple of bits and bobs to bring it up to scratch. He had the chance to rip me off and didn't take it. Fast, friendly, reasonable prices and HONEST. What's more he's a nice bloke and I will trust him with my cars. Will I go to the main dealer again?? Oh Pleeeeease!! Need you ask?

I'll spend what I save on something nice knowing my car is being very well looked after.

Also:

27/04/07: After my car broke down whilst on holiday I used this site and contacted Mark. My concerns of using a garage I knew nothing about quickly disappeared as I asked Mark to look at my car. Working for himself, he quickly sorted my car out and helped me with a warranty claim over a part I had previously had fitted. It is not very often you come across someone as helpful and genuine as Mark and he easily merits the 5 stars.

Also:

06/11/07: I went to Mark after being warned off almondbury BMW garage in huddersfield. Straight away Mark was amazingly helpful and nice. the work he did was excellent, and amazingly cheap. All communications were excellent.

I would recommend West View Garage to anyone, no matter what BMW you have!

Timescale BMW Selby - central Yorkshire 01/03/06: Very knowledgeable about BMW's but will service other makes. much nicer to deal with than main dealers and won't rip you off.

Also:

16/01/06: Great mechanics who will charge you a fair price for servicing your car, independant BMW specialists who know their business, highly recommended.

Michael Moore Broughton Cross, West Cumbria 24/03/06: Five star plus! Run by an ex-BMW mechanic.

They have handled all my servicing and major repairs on a 525 and 528.

Very knowledgeable, rates are 50% of a BMW garage so are competative.

MT Specialist Cars Castleford, West Yorkshire 25/01/08: These guy's are German car specialists, recently had my 323i serviced and they did a fantastic job , reasonable price too @ £165for full service. They also do MOT preps , Repairs , Body and Paintwork , Air Con , and Diagnostics. I'll be taking my car there now instead of rip-off dealers.
Nationwide BMW Spares Durham 08/08/08: Beware.........................Nationwide BMW Spares may have gone Bankrupt, I have been trying to get a refund for an engine incorrectly supplied, for 6 weeks and have been promised over 20 times that it would be in by bank. The director has gone missing and is being investigated by the police. He has taken payments and not sent spares and has been using customers credit card details without authorisation. If you have purchased from this company check your credit card now. First Choice have removed him from their website. Sometimes you have to talk when you have had a bad experience as well as a good, and this has been really bad!
Michael Theobald Garage Leyland, Lancs 22/11/08: Used them for servicing BMW330d. Seemed fine. But then used them to repair squeeling noise from engine. Replaced belt(supposedly genuine BMW part. No difference. Said "It must be the tensioner". Took 3 days to replace tensioner because "It's developed an oil leak". Charged me £500. No difference! Shrugged and said "Take it to BMW". Unbelievable! BMW said belt was not genuine part, and tensioner replacement not required. Diagnosed fault immediately, but another £250 to repair.Theobald's will get no more buisiness from me, but they didn't seem bothered. Avoid!
Garage G786 Leicester 29/12/08: These guys are BMW repair specialists, they also have the computers to diagnose and repair the latest BMW's. I had a fault showing on my iDrive monitor, they hooked up the computer and within 2 minutes the fault was fixed - just a bug in the software. Sytner BMW Leicester would have taken my car all day and charged me £150 for the same thing and would have ended up breaking something to ensure I came back.

also:

18/11/09: This garage is very impressive down to earth by the book servicing and repairs about 60% less than BMW Main Agents. Very knowledgeable and efficient. I would net hesitate to recommend this specialist BMW garage anyone.
